Sotsji bereidt zich voor op race op oorspronkelijke datum

In Sotsji gaan de voorbereidingen voor de Russische Grand Prix van 27 september door alsof er niks aan de hand is. Uiteraard houdt de organisatie de ontwikkelingen rondom de coronapandemie goed in de gaten, maar vooralsnog is er geen aanleiding om te denken dat de Formule 1 eind september niet naar Rusland af kan reizen.

Men gaat er in Sotsji vanuit dat het seizoen ergens in de komende maanden van start kan gaan en dat de Sochi Autodrom op de oorspronkelijke datum een Grand Prix zal huisvesten. Alexey Titov, directeur van promotor Rosgonski, verklaarde aan persbureau Tass: "We zijn ons actief aan het voorbereiden op een Formule 1-race in september."

"We houden de ontwikkelingen vanzelfsprekend scherp in de gaten en luisteren naar de aanbevelingen en instructies van de overheden en experts. We staan ook voortdurend in contact met de Formule 1-leiding. Het circuit zelf is op dit moment gesloten, met alleen onderhoudspersoneel ter plekke. Maar wij prepareren ons gewoon voor een Grand Prix op 27 september."
