Formule 1-organisatie snijdt ook in de personeelskosten

Niet alleen de teams zijn financieel in zwaar weer terecht gekomen door de coronacrisis, ook de organisatie achter de Formule 1 heeft het moeilijk. De helft van het personeel is verplicht met 'verlof' gestuurd, meldt BBC Sport. McLaren, Williams en Racing Point deden eerder hetzelfde.

Door medewerkers naar huis te sturen kan de Formule 1-organisatie een beroep doen op een noodfonds van de Britse overheid, waardoor ze 80 procent van de salarissen vergoed krijgen. De directie van de Formule 1 staat vrijwillig een deel van hun loon af.

Zo levert Formule 1-baas Chase Carey meer dan 20 procent van zijn salaris in. Dit alles is bedoeld om de uitgaven te drukken nu de inkomstenstroom door de coronapandemie is opgedroogd. De Formule 1 ontvangt zonder races geen geld van promotors, televisiezenders en sponsors.
