Sebastian Vettel noemt huidige Formule 1-auto's 'te zwaar'

De huidige Formule 1-bolides zijn nog net geen logge bakbeesten, maar in een relaas van Ferrari-coureur Sebastian Vettel komt het daar wel op neer. Het minimumgewicht van de wagens bedraagt tegenwoordig 746 kilo, pakweg 150 kilo meer dan tien jaar geleden. Dat wordt gecompenseerd door de enorme hoeveelheid downforce - waardoor de rondetijden toch snel zijn – maar dat doet niets af aan het gevoel.

Vettel legt aan Autosport uit: "De auto's zijn fenomenaal wat betreft neerwaartse druk. Het is bijna belachelijk hoeveel downforce deze wagens genereren en hoe snel we door de snelle bochten kunnen. Maar in de langzame bochten voel je hoe zwaar de bolides eigenlijk zijn. In mijn ogen zijn de auto's te zwaar. Ik heb liever iets minder downforce en dan lichtere wagens. Dat zou voor de rondetijden niet uitmaken, misschien zijn we zelfs sneller."

De viervoudig wereldkampioen begrijpt wel hoe het zover heeft kunnen komen. "Deze richting is ingeslagen door de komst van de nieuwe aandrijflijn met alle extra systemen om energie terug te winnen. Deels is het ook een gevolg van veiligheidsmaatregelen en daar kun je niet op terugkomen. De halo is bijvoorbeeld al iets van 10 kilo. Dat kan misschien lichter, indien de beugel wel net zo sterk blijft. Wat ik maar wil zeggen is hoe geweldig de auto's van rond de 600 tot 620 kilo aanvoelden. Tegenwoordig zitten we op 750 kilo."

Wendbaarheid

Oud Formule 1-coureur Karun Chandhok had het hier eerder al over met Racefans.net. "Ik was optimistisch voor 2021, maar de nieuwe regels zijn al uitgesteld tot 2022. De nieuwe reglementen kunnen mij niet snel genoeg komen. De Formule 1 is toe aan een reset en aan auto's waarmee je beter kunt racen. De auto's uit 2011 waren zo wendbaar. Ik heb in de Mercedes uit 2019 gereden en je voelt het gewicht. Het leek wel een sportscar."

  Neen, want het minimumgewicht zonder benzine is 740 kilogram. Dus zonder volledige volle tanken zijn ze nog steeds 140 kg zwaarder dan 15 jaar geleden.

Helemaal waar. Weg met al dat gewicht, weg met die elektrische troep, weg met die wielbasis van een stretch-limo en weg met die aerodynamische liflafjes. Dan wordt het weer echt racen.

de wagens tot 2004 waren fenomenaal qua snelheids sensatie, wendbaarheid en natuurlijk geluid, dat was F1 in optima forma, alles na 2004 is ieder seizoen gefaseerd minder geworden, mijn mening uiteraard

Hij heeft gelijk. Ze zijn daarnaast ook nog veel te lang. Zag afgelopen week een foto (of een schets, geen idee) gezien tussen de auto's van pakweg 2005 en 2019. De huidge bolides lijken meer op limousines. Bevordert het inhalen ook niet...

Iedereen weet dat de huidige F1 ruk is met hun hybride zever.maar ze doen er toch niks aan.waardeloos!het enige wat ze doen als de teams weer dichter bij elkaar komen,is de regels veranderen?
