Rudy van Buren krijgt kans in Duitse Porsche Carrera Cup

Rudy van Buren mag dit seizoen - wanneer dat op gang moge komen - zijn kunsten vertonen in de Duitse Porsche Carrera Cup. De 28-jarige Nederlander heeft een fulltime zitje bemachtigd bij het team van Cartech Motorsport. Van Buren vergaarde bekendheid door de World's Fastest Gamer-competitie van McLaren te winnen en zodoende een contract als simulatorcoureur bij het team af te dwingen.

Dat opende voor hem gelijk ook andere deuren in de autosport. Zo nam hij in 2018 deel aan de Race of Champions en mocht hij bij het Goodwood Festival of Speed in een McLaren M23 uit 1974 rijden. Een rol als ontwikkelingscoureur bij Formule E-team combineerde Van Buren de laatste tijd met gastoptredens in de Duitse Porsche Carrera Cup en de Porsche Supercup.

Nu krijgt hij de kans om een volledig seizoen te draaien, zij het een ingekort seizoen. Van Buren: "Het is lastig onder woorden te brengen hoe opwindend ik dit vind. Hier ben ik sinds een paar jaar naar op zoek. Het was een paar keer eerder bijna zover, maar nu heb ik echt mijn handtekening onder een contract kunnen zetten."

"Het licht ging in februari van dit jaar op groen. Het hing van twee andere mensen af en toen de tweede zijn jawoord gaf, moest ik wel een traantje wegpinken. Racen is niet goedkoop en het is erg cool dat mensen het vertrouwen in me uitspreken. Nu is het aan mij om hen trots te maken en te laten zien waartoe ik in staat ben zodra we weer kunnen racen."

Mooi voor Rudy, hij was een groot talent in de autosport maar had niet genoeg geld/sposoren. Leuk dat hij via deze weg een nieuwe kans krijgt.

  Zeker mooi voor hem om nu alsnog een professionele carrière in de echte autosport te kunnen starten. Heeft hij toch zelf afgedwongen met zijn simracing resultaten, maar ook met zijn publieke optredens in auto's, zoals tijdens de Race of the Champions waar hij Lando Norris versloeg. Daar liet hij wel zien ook in echte auto's goed uit de voeten te kunnen.

De Buren van Rudy zullen ook blij zijn als hij eindelijk weer kan racen, die zijn dat a-sociale gejakker van hem door hun woonwijk meer dan zat.
