Carlos Sainz wellicht op startlijst voor virtuele Grand Prix

Het deelnemersveld voor de virtuele Grand Prix van China van aanstaande zondag telt net als bij de vorige race zes coureurs uit het Formule 1-veld; Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, Nicholas Latifi, George Russell, Antonio Giovinazzi en Alexander Albon. Laatstgenoemde krijgt bij Red Bull Racing gezelschap van Real Madrid-keeper Thibaut Courtois, om maar een voorbeeld te geven van welke namen verder aan de start verschijnen.

Mogelijk voegt zich voor zondag nog een zevende Formule 1-rijder bij het gezelschap, namelijk Carlos Sainz van McLaren. Hij is in elk geval druk bezig met voorbereidingen. Lukt het voor de virtuele Grand Prix van dit weekend niet, dan toch zeker voor de volgende.

Sainz vertelde aan Sky Sports F1: "Ik heb net mijn simulator binnen waarop ik de Formule 1-game en iRacing kan spelen. Ik probeer van de partij te zijn bij de komende virtuele Grand Prix, maar mijn deelname is nog niet bevestigd omdat ik kamp met problemen bij het rempedaal. Ik ben bezig om dat enigszins naar behoren in en af te stellen. Zodra dat gelukt is, zal ik mee gaan doen aan de online races."

Haas F1-coureur Romain Grosjean heeft ook een nieuwe simulator aangeschaft. Racefans.net bericht dat de Fransman van plan is om zich na dit weekend bij de virtuele Grand Prix-serie aan te sluiten. Hij wil eerst een beetje training en ervaring opdoen. Teamgenoot Kevin Magnussen voelt niet de behoefte om mee te doen aan de online races. Max Verstappen en Daniil Kvyat sloten eerder al uit deel te gaan nemen aan de virtuele Grands Prix.

Ik kijk lierer oude races terug. Van het weekend nog de Donnington Park GP van 1993 gezien, waarin Senna zijn klasse weer eens toonde. Aanrader.

  @Stoffelman, net als 14 anders F1 coureurs ? Wat een onzin. Veel coureurs hebben geen behoefte om dit spel te spelen om uiteenlopende redenen.
  
  De deelname van Thibaut zegt afdoende over het simniveau, niks mis mee natuurlijk, maar laat de coureurs zelf bepalen of ze wel of niet wensen deel te nemen aan dit arcade spel.
