Pierre Gasly benadert lockdown maar als trainingskamp

Alpha Tauri-coureur Pierre Gasly verblijft al weken in een hotel in Dubai. De Fransman was op terugreis vanuit Australië toen de coronapandemie in Europa om zich heen begon te grijpen. Zijn woonplaats in Italië was al van de buitenwereld afgesloten en ook Frankrijk ging op slot, dus besloot Gasly maar om in Dubai te blijven.

In een interview via het Youtube-kanaal van Alpha Tauri kreeg hij de vraag wat hij daar nu zoal doet op een dag. Gasly: "We proberen deze lockdown-periode te benaderen als een trainingskamp. Mijn fitnesscoach Pyry Salmela is hier ook en we trainen hard samen."

"We letten ook goed op ons dieet, dat is nog nooit zo streng geweest als nu. We proberen mijn fysieke conditie te optimaliseren in afwachting van wanneer we weer kunnen racen. We eten veel groenten. Koolhydraten en suiker zijn uit den boze. Ik moet wat meer proteïne tot me nemen, daar had ik te weinig van. En dan nog wat gezonde snacks tussendoor zodat we 's avonds niet opeens trek krijgen. Pyry is een geweldig kok en maakt de lekkerste gerechten voor me."

Over zijn terugreis vanuit Melbourne liet Gasly weten: "Ik heb gekeken naar de situatie in Italië, waar ik woon, maar daar gingen vliegvelden al dicht en het was niet meer mogelijk om terug te keren. Frankrijk, waar mijn familie is, was ook geen optie. Ik wilde niet het risico nemen, mijn ouders zijn beiden ouder dan 60. Dus besloot ik dat het maar beter was om in Dubai te blijven."

Stel me voor dat die daar wel lekker kan trainen, die gebouwen daar zijn wel hoog zo 800 mrt hoor dus met de trappen om hoog.
