Mercedes wisselt alsmaar van standpunt over budgetlimiet

Het team van Mercedes vertoont draaikonten-gedrag in de discussie rondom de invoering van een budgetlimiet voor de Formule 1. Die conclusie trekt Red Bull-motorsportadviseur Helmut Marko tegenover F1-Insider.com. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff wisselt continu van standpunt.

Bijvoorbeeld over de hoogte van het budgetlimiet. Helmut Marko: "Een paar weken geleden stak Toto Wolff zijn nek nog uit door te verklaren dat Mercedes bereid was om een budgetplafond van rond de 100 miljoen dollar te accepteren. Nu heeft hij een brief naar de internationale autosportbond FIA gestuurd waarin hij het plotseling over 145 miljoen dollar heeft."

Hetzelfde geldt voor de introductie van een salarisplafond voor coureurs. "In eerste instantie stond Toto Wolff erop dat we in 2021 een maximaal bedrag voor het salaris van een rijder zouden afspreken", vervolgt Helmut Marko. "Nu wil hij deze stap pas in 2025 zetten."

Het budgetlimiet is momenteel een heet hangijzer in de Formule 1. De standpunten van de diverse partijen lopen behoorlijk uiteen. McLaren en Ferrari gingen al bijna rollebollend over straat. De kleine teams zetten zo laag mogelijk in, de grote teams willen niet te laag gaan. In dat kader is het niet handig dat een team als Mercedes dan telkens een ander standpunt inneemt.

    Mercedes als team gaat niet lang meer in F1 blijven. De nieuwe CEO van Daimler heeft het niet met F1 maar met FE, Mercedes gaat als team de stekker eruit trekken.

      Zolang het voor Daimler interessant is om in de F1 te blijven zullen ze niet vertrekken.
      De nieuwe CEO mag dan geen fan zijn van de sport, maar zolang als het geld binnenbrengt zal ze er geen streep doorhalen.

      Hangt er natuurlijk vanaf hoe er wordt gekeken naar die inkomsten.
      Vraag is zelfs of het überhaupt, finaal onderaan de lijn, effectief winstgevend is.

      Hoe meet Mercedes bvb wat het doet met de wagenverkoop?
      Kan je de directe impact van hun F1 succes vertalen naar % meerverkoop?

      Er komt natuurlijk veel meer bij kijken, weet ik wel.
      Voor elke autoconstructeur is imago één, misschien zelfs dé, belangrijkste parameter.

      Maar met het opkomen van de elektrisch aangedreven wagens snap ik Reizo zijn opmerking helemaal. Mercedes is geen Ferrari. De duitse fabrikant moet vooral waken over hun marktaandeel en zich blijven meten met de andere premiummerken. Mochten ze zich volledig toeleggen op de FE en de F1 vaarwel zeggen verwacht ik niet dat er plots een gigantische terugval van de wagen en -truckverkoop zal ontstaan.

      Ferrari heeft F1 nodig. En omgekeerd.
      Ik zie niet al te gauw de sprong maken naar de FE.

      Klopt, daarom hebben ze ook nieuwe langdurige sponsorcontracten getekend en zei de ceo van Mercedes 'bullshit' toen hij over de geruchten over een vertrek in de F1 sprak. Het is tijd dat de scholen weer opengaan.

      @zOmer: Goh, I know...maar contracten kunnen vele zaken bevatten.
      Uitstapclausules, mogelijks ook sponsorovereenkomsten die bepaalde vrijheden of restricties opleggen aan beide partijen.

    salaris van coureurs is simpel , salaris plafond enrest net als amerika die extra geld door sponsoring. dus externe salaris. Plafond is goed maar moet ook ergens eeng ezond inkomen hebben..

    Zie net op een andere site dat er waarschijnlijk snel een einde komt aan deze discussie:
    "De FIA heeft een speciale maatregel doorgevoerd om sneller te kunnen handelen in tijden van corona. De zogenaamde 'safeguard clause' betekent dat de autosportfederatie geen unanieme steun van teams nodig heeft voor aanpassingen aan de F1-reglementen voor het eerstvolgende jaar. Dit kan onder meer helpen om het budgetplafond verder te verlagen."
    Ik zeg: Goed nieuws! Als men dit tenminste gaat inzetten...

    Ik had aan het begin van de discussie gehoopt dat ze onder de 200 miljoen uit zouden komen. Ik denk dat dit op termijn al verschil uit gaat maken.

    Het zal niet veel toestroom van nieuwe teams geven vrees ik. Zeker niet van fabrikanten. Ze zullen die motorformule ook moeten gaan aanpassen. Misschien inzetten op zuiniger worden? Wat anders zal een relatie kunnen hebben met de toekomst van de automobiel? Nog kleinere motor? Maar dat kost uiteraard weer extra miljarden...
