Toto Wolff zal bij minder Grands Prix aanwezig zijn in 2020

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff zal dit jaar minder vaak naar Grands Prix afreizen dan men van hem gewend is. De Oostenrijker schitterde vorig jaar in Brazilië reeds door afwezigheid, de eerste race die hij miste sinds 2013. Dit gaat komend seizoen vaker gebeuren.

Deze aankondiging van Toto Wolff valt samen met geruchten over zijn toekomst. Zo zou hij minder goed op kunnen schieten met de nieuwe Daimler-topman dan met zijn voorganger en investeerde hij in het Aston Martin-project van zijn vriend Lawrence Stroll.

De optelsom dat Toto Wolff mogelijk op korte termijn vertrekt bij Mercedes is gauw gemaakt. Zelf slaagt hij er in de krant Osterreich niet in om de angel uit dat verhaal te halen. "Voor 2020 ben ik gewoon teambaas van Mercedes, ook al ga ik mijn tijd anders indelen en zal ik minder races bijwonen dan voorheen. Ik wil mijn steentje bijdragen om ervoor te zorgen dat Lewis Hamilton zijn zevende wereldtitel verovert."

Over hoe het met Hamilton gaat ten tijde van deze gedwongen pauze, zegt Wolff: "Lewis was gewend om de hele wereld over te reizen, maar ook hij moet nu pas op de plaats maken. Hij weet echter hoe hij deze situatie positief kan gebruiken. Hij komt terug met een nog grotere motivatie dan voorheen, daar verzekert hij me in elk telefoongesprek van."

      Toch wel extra opvallend... Ik bedoel... Mocht het seizoen maar 10 a 12 races worden (ze mikken op 16/18 maar even als voorbeeld) om dan alsnog te minderen in aantal races aanwezig is best wel een statement... Bij 5 races afwezig mist die gewoon de helft van het seizoen.

    Ik neem aan dat Toto niet ziek is of iemand anders in de Family, dat zou ook nog een reden kunnen zijn, anders zal het toch wel op een exit uitdraaien van Toto met Mercedes, normaal wil je er gewoon bij zijn, er spelen zeker andere zaken.
