News Corp. bevestigt interesse in overname Formule 1-rechten

Media groep News Corporation heeft vandaag officieel bevestigd dat ze interesse hebben in het overnemen van de Formule 1-rechten. Vanavond werd duidelijk door middel van een persbericht dat er al gesprekken gaande zijn. News Corporation plant de overname samen met een Italiaanse investeringsmaatschappij die nauwe banden onderhoud met Fiat.

Na weken van speculatie over de intenties van News Corporation om de Formule 1-rechten over te nemen, werd vanavond het één en ander duidelijk middels een persbericht. "EXOR, één van Europa's grootste investeringsmaatschappijen, en News Corporation, een wereldwijde mediagroep, bevestigen dat ze in een vroeg stadium zijn met het bekijken of ze bij kunnen dragen aan het succes van de Formule 1."

"De komende weken en maanden zullen EXOR en News Corporation enkele kleinere potentiële partners en aandeelhouders in de sport benaderen. Het is nog niet zeker of dit leidt tot de echte stap naar de huidige eigenaren van de Formule 1 (CVC en commercieel rechtenhouder Bernie Ecclestone, red.)."
