Liberty Media vult prijzenpot voor de Formule 1-teams aan

De Formule 1-teams hoeven zich vooralsnog geen zorgen te maken om hun inkomsten uit de prijzenpot. Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media keert gewoon de volledige beloofde en begrote bedragen uit, zo verkondigde McLaren-baas Zak Brown aan The Guardian.

Hoewel tien van de 22 Grands Prix voor dit jaar reeds uitgesteld of geannuleerd zijn, zal het Amerikaanse mediabedrijf niet beknibbelen op de betalingen. Liberty Media houdt de prijzenpot op peil met geld uit eigen zak nu de inkomsten door een gebrek aan races opdrogen.

De eigenaar van de Formule 1 voorzag de overkoepelende Formula One Group recent van 1,4 miljard dollar aan cash door intern met aandelen te schuiven. Dat geld wordt nu gebruikt om de prijzenpot te spekken. Vorig jaar mochten de tien teams zo'n 1 miljard dollar verdelen.

Zak Brown van McLaren: "Liberty Media keert volledige bedragen uit, 100 procent van wat ze voorspeld hebben. Ik denk dat hun besluit om 1,4 miljard dollar op de bankrekening te zetten een verantwoordelijk besluit is, ze steken hun kop niet in het zand voor de gevolgen van deze crisis."
