'Grand Prix van Miami absoluut in 2022 op Formule 1-kalender'

De Verenigde Staten krijgen er over twee jaar een tweede Grand Prix binnen de landsgrenzen bij. Althans, die overtuiging leeft bij bronnen rondom een mogelijke Formule 1-race in Miami. De Amerikaanse stad wilde eigenlijk voor 2021 al een plekje op de Formule 1-kalender bemachtigen, maar door de uitbraak van het coronavirus is dat nu verschoven naar 2022.

Oud Formule 1-coureur Emerson Fittipaldi dicht Miami goede kansen toe om dan een Grand Prix te organiseren. "Miami staat in 2020 absoluut op de Formule 1-kalender", citeert Autoweek de tweevoudig wereldkampioen. De Braziliaan heeft een huis in Miami en verdeelt zijn tijd tussen de Amerikaanse stad en zijn geboorteland.

Ook Tavo Hellmund, de promotor achter het Circuit of the Americas en de komst van de Formule 1 naar Austin, is optimistisch over het perspectief voor Miami. "De kans is groot dat de Formule 1 in 2022 naar Miami komt. Het is altijd een kwestie van alle neuzen dezelfde richting op krijgen, maar gezien de steun die Stephen Ross in de omgeving geniet moet dat geen problemen opleveren."

Stephen Ross is de eigenaar van NFL-team Miami Dolphins en het Hard Rock Stadium. De beoogde lay-out van het circuit kronkelt zich ook om dat stadion. Waarheid gebiedt te zeggen dat Ross al sinds 2017 bezig is om de Formule 1 naar Miami te halen, maar tot nu toe ook op veel verzet stuitte. Een parkoers door het centrum van de stad is al afgeschoten en ook de huidige plannen zijn geen onverdeeld succes. Toch zet hij alles op alles om in 2022 een Grand Prix in Miami plaats te laten vinden.

Ik vind t altijd maar raar dat bewoners zo'n grote stem mogen hebben in zoiets als dit... Ik bedoel... 1. het is een parkeerstraat en maximaal 4 extra straten dat hiervoor worden afgezet... misschien 10 tot 15 dagen last van omdat je een stukkie om moet rijden. Denk dat de kans groter is dat het niet doorgaat. Bewoners en vooral omwonenden zijn fel tegen.

Ik bedoel... 1. het is een parkeerstraat en maximaal 4 extra straten dat hiervoor worden afgezet... misschien 10 tot 15 dagen last van omdat je een stukkie om moet rijden. Als ze die zelfde weg opnieuw willen asfalteren... nee dan hoor je ze niet... "Die vreselijke hobbel bij de lantaarnpaal die moest er al jaren uit... gevaar voor de gehele buurt" ... in elk land heb je ze... de zeurders die zeuren om het willen zeuren.

Liberty kwam eind 2016, en sinds die tijd hoor en lees ik niet anders, dus het zal best wel een keer lukken voor 2030.
