Formule 1 loopt fee van Australische Grand Prix sowieso mis

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Australië, de Australian Grand Prix Corporation die eigendom is van de staat Victoria, heeft met de Formule 1 afgesproken dat ze de fee voor het evenement van dit jaar niet hoeven te betalen. Dat bericht brengt de Australische krant The Age. Voor het Formule 1-weekend op het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne telt Australië jaarlijks 60 miljoen Australische dollar neer.

Aangezien het om publiek geld gaat, was de plaatselijke overheid vastberaden om hierover een akkoord te sluiten met Formula One Management. Het evenement kon dit jaar immers niet doorgaan vanwege de uitbraak van het coronavirus. Dit werd pas op het allerlaatste moment besloten; in de nacht van donderdag op vrijdag, toen de eerste vrije trainingen op het programma stonden, hakte men de knoop door en bliezen ze de Australische Grand Prix af.

Martin Pakula, minister van Sport in Victoria, verklaarde woensdag tijdens een parlementaire enquête dat de betaling van de fee is afgewend. "De Austalian Grand Prix Corporation en de Formule 1 hebben een acceptabele overeenkomst gesloten. De organisatie hoeft de fee voor de Grand Prix van Australië 2020 niet te betalen. Aangezien de race geen doorgang kon vinden, zitten we nog wel met het terugbetalen van gekochte kaartjes. Dat loopt ook in de miljoenen dollars en die zijn allemaal vergoed."

  maar wat heeft een fee met de F1 te maken, waarom moeten ze een fee betalen voor een grand prix, waarom? ik wil het begrijpen!!

  Nu er geen pitspoezen meer op de grid rond lopen heeft een fee haar diensten aangeboden.
  Je kan dan op sprookjesachtige wijze verwend worden.
  Dat is de reden.

  Nou, Clemenza, dat doen ze, omdat ze (FOM) daarmee weg komen. Normaal gesproken huur je idd de baan af, net als gewone mensen moeten doen. Maar de FOM weet ook dat er veel mensen op de F1 afkomen. En dat een circuit veel geld verdienen kan aan drankjes, hapjes ed. En ook omdat circuit bazen knettergek zijn zich zo te laten gebruiken door de FOM. Ze weten dindersgoed dat andere circuits wel in de rij staan in een monsterlijk bedrag te betalen. Idd, waarom? Welkom in de wereld van het groot kapitaal die dingen mogelijk maakt waar gewone simpele stervelingen met de pet niet bij kunnen...

  Toerisme. Iedere bezoeker spendeert rond de 750€ per persoon. Met 50.000 bezoekers heb je 37.5 miljoen omzet in de regio. 2/5e is voor de overheid dmv btw en inkomstenbelasting. Het circuit heeft ook sponsoren en krijgen daar ook rond de 10 miljoen voor. Dus als je 20 miljoen moet betalen om een race te organiseren, dan kan je nog winst maken. En als de overheid enkele miljoenen sponsort of garant staat voor het tekort, dan loop je geen risico.
