Franz Tost: "Het leven is ronduit saai zonder F1-races"

Alpha Tauri-teambaas Franz Tost hunkert net als veel Formule 1-fans naar de start van het seizoen 2020. De jaargang had eigenlijk op 15 maart al moeten beginnen, maar twee maanden later is er nog geen race verreden. Door de uitbraak van het coronavirus zijn de eerste tien Grands Prix reeds uitgesteld of afgelast.

Dat thuiszitten gaat ondertussen wel vervelen, bekent Tost tegenover Formula1.com. "In het begin is het heel gek om veel tijd thuis door te brengen. Inmiddels ben ik er wel aan gewend en heb ik het gewoon druk. Alles is oké, maar het leven is ronduit saai zonder Formule 1-races. Ik hoop echt dat we begin juli in Oostenrijk het seizoen op gang kunnen brengen."

Covid-19 tests

Alpha Tauri slaat de handen ineen met gerenommeerde artsen en laboratoria om het personeel aan de lopende band te testen op corona-besmettingen. Tost: "Je kunt je niet voorstellen hoe lastig het is om de juiste test, de juiste artsen en een laboratorium dat geautoriseerd is de tests uit te voeren en te analyseren, te vinden."

"Het heeft ons veel tijd gekost, maar alles is nu geregeld dankzij ons werk met Formula Medicine en anderen. We werken samen met artsen uit Duitsland, Oostenrijk en Italië. Ik denk dat we een test hebben met de garantie op valide resultaten. We hebben een speciale ruimte waar we de tests verrichten. We zorgen ervoor dat niemand de fabriek betreedt die besmet kan zijn. We hopen dat al onze medewerkers virusvrij zijn en aan de slag kunnen."

"We blijven de tests uitvoeren. Discussiepunt is alleen hoe vaak; om de tien dagen of om de veertien dagen. Het raceteam wordt tevens getest voordat ze op reis gaan en zodra ze terugkeren. Als alle teams deze procedure volgen, acht ik de kans groot dat niemand in de paddock positief test op de aanwezigheid van het coronavirus."

De herhalingen komen ondertussen de strot uit. Op 1.5 meter in een halflege kroeg is ook zeer armoedig. Dus het wordt weer tijd voor brood en spelen.

Denken en hopen.. (oefh) En testen jongens? Doe je ELKE dag!!! ... Op deze manier gaat het weer snel mis, .. mark my words!

  Die tests kosten tientallen Euro's per test, zeker deze met lage foutpercentages, maar aangezien ze in bulk kopen wellicht wat lager. Als ze honderden tests per dag moeten afnemen zodat jij je wat beter voelt haalt AlphaTauri de race in Oostenrijk al helemaal niet meer.
  
  Dat is dus helaas geen realistisch scenario.
