Red Bull Racing toeschouwer in gespeculeer over coureurs

Het team van Red Bull Racing vertolkt geen actieve rol in silly season dit jaar. De Oostenrijkse renstal verlengde begin dit jaar het contract van Max Verstappen en is ook tevreden over diens teamgenoot Alexander Albon. Dus kan Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner rustig achterover leunen en toekijken. Dat bevalt hem wel, vertelt hij aan The-Race.com. "Ja, daar kan ik wel van genieten, met name in dit scenario, waarin we van een afstandje het gespeculeer kunnen aanschouwen."

Er zijn in Milton Keynes dan ook geen plannen om Sebastian Vettel terug te halen. Horner: "We zijn tevreden met onze huidige line-up. Het zou zonde zijn als Sebastian de Formule 1 verlaat, maar hij heeft een ongelooflijke carrière achter de rug. Hij heeft grote successen geboekt en hem kennende heeft hij goed nagedacht over zijn beslissing om te vertrekken bij Ferrari. Hij bezit een grote integriteit en alleen hij weet wat hij in de toekomst wil doen. Als hij door wil gaan in de Formule 1, zullen er genoeg mogelijkheden voor hem ontstaan. Het enige dat wij kunnen doen is hem het beste wensen voor de toekomst."

Vanwege het feit dat Daniel Ricciardo al besloten heeft om van Renault naar McLaren te verkassen, lijkt Renault geen aantrekkelijke optie voor Vettel. Horner vervolgt: "Laten we niet vergeten dat er bij Mercedes nog een stoeltje beschikbaar is voor volgend jaar, al weet ik niet of dat voor alle partijen raadzaam is. Ik kreeg vorige week een leuk bericht van Daniel, we hebben af en toe nog contact. Hij zal zijn redenen hebben om na twaalf maanden al te besluiten om weg te gaan bij Renault. We hebben dit jaar nog geen race gereden en hij heeft nu al voor McLaren gekozen. Ik bemoei me daar verder niet mee. Het zijn volwassen gasten, ze nemen hun eigen beslissingen."

Hij dacht te kunnen steken door te zeggen dat RB zonder coureur en motor zat. Het team dat zijn klanten motor kreeg besloot na een jaar al om een andere motor te nemen en de coureur besloot ook na een jaar om weer weg te gaan.

Ik lees toch een sneertje naar Abiteboul in wat Horner zegt over het feit dat Ricciardo na 12 maanden al een ander team kiest.

Grappig, heeft Albon niet maar een contract tot 2020? Al die transfers gaan namelijk over 2021 en dus zal RBR ook nog een tweede rijder moeten bevestigen?

  Albon zal normaal gesproken ook in 2021 bij RBR rijden tenzij hij ondermaats presteert. Red Bull zal niet ineens Hamilton of Vettel gaan halen ofzo.

  Red Bull is nog nooit een Hamilton/Vettel-achtige figuur gaan halen. Dus in dat opzicht hebben ze altijd al achterover kunnen liggen tijdens silly season. Het is dan ook gewoon onwaar, gezien Bottas al gaan informeren is etc en er dus effectief geen contract is voor 2021 en Albon vorig jaar een halve seconde gemiddeld langzamer was dan Verstappen.

Net zoals andere teams de popcorn erbij pakten gedurende de interne stoelendansjes bij Red Bull. Ik mag dat wel. Dat gelul over solidariteit de laatste tijd. Dat bestaat niet in topsport.
