Pastor Maldonado voorziet onstuimig seizoen voor Ferrari

Het team van Ferrari gaat een onstuimig seizoen 2020 tegemoet. Die verwachting heeft oud Formule 1-coureur Pastor Maldonado. Aangezien al bekend is dat Sebastian Vettel en Ferrari na dit jaar uit elkaar gaan, zullen de verhoudingen intern verder op scherp komen te staan. Dat zou de onderlinge spanningen tussen Vettel en teamgenoot Charles Leclerc kunnen vergroten, denkt Maldonado.

"Beide rijders hadden vorig jaar al de nodige problemen met elkaar", verkondigde de eenmalig Grand Prix-winnaar tegenover Marca. "Wie kan garanderen dat dit komend seizoen niet opnieuw gaat gebeuren, zeker nu Vettel al weet dat hij vertrekt? Als je zo'n breuk al aangekondigd hebt, wat heeft dit dan voor gevolgen voor het racen?"

"Gaat Vettel nog wel luisteren naar orders vanaf de pitmuur? We weten het niet, ik ook niet. Dat kan een grote zwakke plek voor Ferrari zijn komend seizoen, net als vorig jaar. Ik verwacht dat de teambaas en de coureurs het nog moeilijk gaan krijgen, wanneer het seizoen eindelijk van start kan gaan."

Maldonado naar Ferrari?

Voor 2021 heeft Ferrari snel gehandeld door Carlos Sainz vast te leggen als opvolger van Vettel. Het had weinig gescheeld of Maldonado had ook ooit voor de Scuderia gereden. "We hebben met meerdere teams gesproken en een daarvan was Ferrari", onthulde de Venezolaan aan Motorbox. "We hebben lang contact gehouden, maar plotseling was er een koerswijziging in Maranello. Luca di Montezemolo en Stefano Domenicali moesten het veld ruimen en de nieuwe leidinggevenden lieten het op zijn beloop, dus draaide het op niets uit."

Ben nou niet echt een Vettel liefhebber, maar ik kom niet meer bij als hij LeClerc zoek rijdt.

Dit is Vettel's laatste jaar, hij heeft niks meer te verliezen bij Ferrari. Ik kan mij voorstellen dat dit een soort van mentale druk bij Vettel weghaalt waardoor hij juist beter gaat presteren en het Leclerc lastig kan gaan maken. En dan wordt het inderdaad chaos bij Ferrari, want Leclerc is nou eenmaal de eerste rijder. Kan inderdaad nog wel eens een vermakelijk spektakel gaan worden dit jaar waarbij menig order vanaf de pitwall genegeerd gaat worden.

  Ik vermoed dat Vettel niet vaak het voordeel van de beste tactiek zal krijgen, maar het wordt inderdaad interessant om te zien hoe het bijvoorbeeld zal gaan met gaten trekken tijdens de kwalificatie, wie de grootste ballen heeft bij de eerste bocht, etc.

  RBH2019, ik zie het gebeuren dat ze Leclerc wat voordeeltjes gaan geven (indien nodig) via pitstoptaktieken. Hebben we vorig jaar nog in Sochi gezien.

  Ja dat zou leuk zijn Snork. Alleen Ferrari is nou niet fantastisch met rijders steunen en tactisch zijn ze al helemaal een drama.

  Waarom heb ik dat in 2019 nou niet gedaan, dan had ik nog een contract, was die snotneus mijn nr2 (Charles, Seb is faster than you etc.) en zat er misschien nog een titel in..
