Sebastian Vettel in verband gebracht met Aston Martin

De toekomst van Sebastian Vettel houdt iedereen in en rondom de Formule 1 de laatste weken flink bezig. De grote vraag is of hij volgend jaar nog actief is in de Formule 1 of dat de Duitser met pensioen gaat. Diverse geruchten brengen hem in verband met Mercedes, maar ook Aston Martin wordt nu gelinkt aan de viervoudig wereldkampioen.

Opvallend is dat de 32-jarige Vettel vooral in verband wordt gebracht met Mercedes-gerelateerde teams, die ook onder leiding staan van Toto Wolff. De Oostenrijker gaf eind vorige week tevens toe dat hij namens Mercedes misschien wel toehapt als de mogelijkheid zich voordoet om Vettel te contracteren.

Vettel en Aston Martin

Een andere mogelijkheid zou nu Aston Martin zijn. De Britse autofabrikant kent roerige en moeilijke tijden, maar staat onder leiding van Lawrence Stroll en Toto Wolff. In 2021 neemt het team officieel deel in de Formule 1, als het Racing Point over neemt, dat momenteel al onder leiding staat van Lawrence Stroll.

Aston Martin zal volgend jaar, net als Racing Point dit jaar, ook met Mercedes-motoren rijden. De huidige teambaas van Racing Point denkt echter dat ze beter op andere dingen kunnen focussen, maar zegt niet meteen 'nee' tegen Vettel. Otmar Szafnauer: "Vanuit ons perspectief is op dit moment het belangrijkste om de naam Aston Martin boven de deuren van de fabriek te krijgen. Naar de coureurs die onze wagens in 2021 besturen zullen we later kijken."

  Elders staat te lezen dat de kans reëel is dat Vettel een Hulkenberg exit gaat krijgen. Racing Point lijkt voor 2021 een gesloten deur, Renault is niet denkbaar en middenveldvulling wordt het sowieso niet voor Vettel. Alleen Mercedes in een optie, maar durft Toto dit aan?

Ik denk dat dit de leukste optie voor Vettel is. Een nieuw team opbouwen met goede mensen en geld. Bij Mercedes wordt het niet leuk voor hem naast Hamilton. Aston Martin kan wel eens het nieuwe RedBull worden als Stroll echt gaat investeren en Toto Wolff weet los te weken bij Mercedes.

  Zoon Stroll op de reservebank zetten, zie ik niet gebeuren. Vettel inhuren is duur. Perez uitkopen met nog 2 jaar op z'n contract is ook duur. Stroll's zakken zijn behoorlijk diep, maar dit lijkt me allemaal iets té.
  Nog afgezien van de vraag of Vettel dit wel wil (moet willen).

Staat Autsin Martin onder leiding van Lawrence Stroll en Toto Wolff? Nee toch Toto Wolff heeft 5% aandelen gekocht van het auto merk Austin Martin en niet van het F1 team. Dus artikel klopt niet.
