Bevestiging Grands Prix in Midden-Oosten kwestie van tijd

De Formule 1 presenteerde vorige week een herziene kalender voor het seizoen 2020. Het schema was echter nog niet volledig, het betrof alleen een rooster voor het Europese deel van de jaargang. De rest van de kalender volgt later. Bahrein en Abu Dhabi hoeven zich in elk geval weinig zorgen te maken om hun evenementen. Een bevestiging dat de twee Grands Prix in het Midden-Oosten ook op de herziene kalender voor 2020 staan is een kwestie van tijd.

Dat blijkt wel uit de woorden van Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff tegenover Formel1.de. "Ik hoop en geloof dat de twee races in het Midden-Oosten spoedig bevestigd zullen worden voor de afsluiting van dit seizoen." Abu Dhabi heeft contractueel vast laten leggen dat het standaard de seizoensfinale is. De race op Yas Marina Circuit stond oorspronkelijk gepland voor 29 november, maar verhuist mogelijk naar 6 of 13 december. De Grand Prix van Bahrein zal een week voor Abu Dhabi plaatsvinden.

Het Europese deel van het seizoen krijgt mogelijk nog een vervolg met één of twee Grands Prix. Hockenheim, Imola en Mugello zijn kandidaten om die races te huisvesten. Het Russische Sotsji heeft zich ook al aangeboden om twee races in plaats van één Grand Prix te organiseren, zoals op de Red Bull Ring en Silverstone al gaat gebeuren. Hoe het Aziatische en het Noord-Amerikaanse deel van het seizoen eruit komt te zien is nog koffiedik kijken.

  Zo kan je alles wel onder het 'sarcasme' excuus proberen te rechtvaardigen.

  Ik wilde er eerder de hypocriete mening van de F1 organisatie, maar ook enkele racers mee aanstippen.
  Geen gridgirls meer, want sexistisch, iedereen moet zich uitspreken tegen rasicme, alles moet politiek correct zijn, maar ondertussen worden er wel races gehouden in het midden-oosten, waar vrijheid van meningsuiting niet bestaat, waar een andere sexuele geaardheid kan leiden tot gevangenisstraf of zelfs de dood.
  Landen waar slavernij op dit moment nog orde van de dag is. Waar vrouwen tot voor kort niet zelf een auto mochten besturen, of waar ze verplicht worden zichzelf en hun lichaam te verbergen en in enkele landen niet eens zonder man de straat op mogen.
  
  De uitspraak van Lewis Hamilton over het uitspreken tegen racisme in Amerika wordt ondersteund door Ross Brawn, maar de FIA/FOM zelf zal niets doen om ook maar iets aan die situatie te veranderen, want er is veel geld te verdienen in het Midden-Oosten (en dan vooral in de Emiraten).
  Wil je dat er iets veranderd? Doe dan ook iets, in plaats van wat loze kreten in een instagram post te zetten, of een interview te geven waarin je je steun uitspreekt.
  
  Maar nee, het blijft bij die loze woorden, woorden die nooit zullen worden omgezet in daden, want dat gaat ten koste van het geld dat te verdienen is.

  Ow ja, ondertussen was ik China en Rusland vergeten te benoemen.
  Zullen we Brazilië dan ook maar overslaan, vanwege de corruptie en totale ongelijkheid die daar is? Mexico dan ook maar, vanwege al het drugsgeweld?
  
  Als je als F1 organisatie echt iets zou geven om BLM/Equal opportunities/Freedom of speech etc, zou je gewoon moeten verdommen om te racen in landen met een dergelijke reputatie te gaan racen.

  Alleen blijft er dan weinig over waar je wel nog zou kunnen racen.
  
  Ik bedoel: noem een land waar alles perfect is als het om mensenrechten gaat.

  Het is nergens perfect, maar dat hoeft ook niet. Er zijn heel veel landen waar het wel stukken beter is gesteld met mensenrechten dan in de Emiraten, Rusland of China.
  
  Er zijn meer dan voldoende landen waar gelijkheid en vrijheid van meningsuiting wettelijk is vastgelegd en waar dit grotendeels wordt nageleefd.

  Doe je het als organisatie dan goed? Nee, ook niet: want dan bedrijf je te veel politiek (wat als onafhankelijk onstituut ook not done is).

  Hoezo 2 maten?
  Als jij als sport organisatie gewoon stelt dat er alleen races gehouden worden in landen waar gelijkheid gewoon is vastgelegd in de wet (artikel 1 NL grondwet) is er een hele duidelijke lijn en is er maar 1 maat waarmee gemeten wordt.
