Kimi Raikkonen: "Als ik geen plezier heb is 2020 mijn laatste jaar in F1"

Kimi Raikkonen heeft de mogelijkheid open gelaten dat hij eind 2020 zal stoppen met zijn carrière in de Formule 1. Op 40-jarige leeftijd en met meer dan 300 Grand Prixs op zijn naam, is de wereldkampioen van 2007 de oudste en meest ervaren coureur in de Formule 1.

Op de vraag of dit jaar zijn laatste zal zijn, zei Raikkonen tegen Infobae: "Ik heb al gezegd dat ik dit seizoen ga rijden en dan zal ik beslissen. Als ik dit jaar blijf genieten van racen, zal ik doorgaan. Zo niet, dan ga ik met pensioen."

Een hekel aan interviews

De Fin reed in 2010 en 2011 in zowel de Nascar als Rally's, maar hij zei dat hij zijn motivatie hoog hield vanwege zijn liefde voor racen. "Het is heel simpel, ik hou van racen. De rest, de interviews en dat soort dingen kan me eigenlijk niets schelen, maar ik hou echt van het gevoel van racen op wielen. Ik heb dat gemist en daarom ben ik teruggekomen."

Recordhouder

Het is mogelijk dat Raikkonen in 2020 het record van Rubens Barrichello als coureur met de meeste F1-races in de geschiedenis inhaalt. Zoals we Raikkonen kennen is hij daar nuchter onder: "Daar geef ik niet zoveel om. Ik word er niet blij van. Ik denk dat ik me veel meer dingen zal herinneren van mijn carrière dan het aantal races dat ik heb gedaan."

Raikkonen werd ook gevraagd welke regels hij zou veranderen in F1, en hij gaf een voorspelbaar antwoord voor de coureur die bekend staat als The Iceman.

"Het maakt echt niet uit, het is niet aan ons om de regels te veranderen. Uiteindelijk zullen we rijden met de auto die voor ons is gebouwd en we moeten ons aanpassen en proberen zo snel mogelijk te gaan."

Tevens zei hij niet meer terug te zullen kijken op zijn carrière. Klaar is klaar voor Kimi Raikkonen: "Ik denk niet dat ik het zal missen. Er zijn goede mensen en ik zal contact met ze houden, maar dat is alles. Ik heb er vele jaren doorgebracht en wanneer ik ervoor kies om te stoppen, weet ik zeker dat ik genoeg dingen zal vinden om me bezig te houden."

  Ik mis de Raikkonen van voor 2008. Daar zat misschien wel net zo veel potentieel in als bij Hamilton, maar na zijn wereldtitel is hij denk ik toch iets van gedrevenheid kwijt geraakt. En ik moet ook eerlijk zeggen dat als ik naar de afgelopen 5 jaar kijk dat het ook echt wel tijd wordt voor Raikkonen om te stoppen.

  Ik waardeer RAI juist heel erg, ook van de afgelopen jaren. Ik zie graag andere mensen stoppen (en sommige hebben dat gelukkig ook gedaan in de afgelopen 5 jaar)

Dit bericht geeft mij sterk de indruk dat hij er mee gaat stoppen. Dit seizoen kan wel eens een seizoen van teveel back-to-back races worden, de vraag is of hij daar nu nog steeds zin in heeft. Ik zie een stoeltje vrijkomen voor 2021.

Ik zou er niet van opkijken als Kimi morgen de F1-poort achter zich sluit.
Poort, geen deur, omdat de man toch een markante passage in de sport zou achterlaten.

Ik ben nooit uitgesproken fan van Kimi geweest. Toppiloot, zeer zeker wel.
Het is bovendien de laatste Ferrari -kampioen tot op heden, een pijnlijk feit.
Vond hem nooit echt 'passen' bij "mijn" Scuderia, al wil ik hier geen afbreuk doen op zijn talent en succes.

Het is zo één van die fenomenen waarbij je achteraf zal zeggen dat hij meer uit zijn carrière had kunnen halen met een ietwat andere attitude, misschien zelfs wat meer inzet. Anderzijds siert hem zijn "I don't give a sh**" mentaliteit en had hij met een tikkeltje meer geluk op z'n minst 2 titels achter zijn naam.

Kleurrijk door zijn onverschilligheid.
Populair door zijn talent en omwille van het feit dat hij geen zier gaf om het 'protocol'.
Maar dus ook iemand, imo, die met net wat meer inzet en overgave meer uit zijn loopbaan had kunnen halen.

En...hij heeft veruit de mooiste partner van heel de F1 grid.

Laat me raden, hij heeft er geen zin meer in na 2020. En terecht, kimi heeft zijn sporen wel verdiend. Hoog tijd ook voor vers bloed dat gekocht wordt door miljardairs.

Tja Kimi, in zijn jongere jaren absoluut top in de formule 1, maar nu al heel wat jaren subtop en qua karakter , je moet er van houden , maar ik ga hem niet missen
