Vietnam vervangt mogelijk Japan op 2020-kalender

De Formule 1 onderzoekt verschillende opties om te kunnen racen in Azië in de tweede helft van 2020 na de annulering van de Japanse Grand Prix. De serie bevestigde vorige week dat de Japanse Grand Prix voor het eerst sinds 1986 niet wordt verreden, die dit jaar op 11 oktober zou plaatsvindenDe race van dit jaar zou plaatsvinden op 11 oktober..

Volgens RaceFans wil de Formule 1 graag het gat opvullen dat na de Europese Grands Prix valt, met eerdere races die in Azië gereden zouden worden maar nu zijn uitgesteld. De bedoeling is om een aantal races in Azië alsnog te rijden.

De eerste voorkeur van de FOM is om ruimte te vinden voor races in zowel China als Vietnam. De promotor van de race van laatstgenoemde zei vorige maand dat ze nog steeds op zoek zijn naar een vervangingsdatum voor wat hun eerste Grand Prix ooit zou zijn.

Logistieke belemmeringen

Voor het houden van de Grand Prix in Vietnam zijn echter aanzienlijke belemmeringen. De gebruikelijke uitdagingen van het houden van een nieuwe Grand Prix zijn nu nog groter aangezien het een tijdelijk circuit betreft en in een stad. Hiermee heeft de organisatie ook te maken met beperkingen die voortvloeien uit de corona-maatregelen.
