Charles Leclerc maakt mensen in Maranello wakker met demonstratie

Charles Leclerc heeft vanochtend met zijn Ferrari van dit seizoen door de straten van Maranello gereden. De verwachting is dat hij vandaag of morgen tevens zal testen in een Ferrari uit 2018 op Fiorano. De laatste keer dat Leclerc en teamgenoot Sebastian Vettel in een F1-wagen hebben gereden was op 28 februari tijdens de wintertest in Barcelona.

Het F1-seizoen werd opgeschort voordat de vrije training in Australië zelfs was begonnen vanwege de escalatie van de coronavirus. Nu het seizoen begin juli in Oostenrijk begint, hebben teams echter geprobeerd te regelen om hun coureurs weer achter het stuur te krijgen en te wennen aan de nieuwe veiligheidsprotocollen van de F1 die in acht moeten worden genomen tijdens het besturen van de auto's en het werken in de pitboxen.

Leclerc reed de Ferrari van 2020 de Maranello-fabriek uit en op weg naar de Fiorano-testbaan op donderdagochtend, en werd de eerste coureur 'van de moderne tijd' die met een F1-auto in de straten van Maranello reed.

Geen ochtendmens

Na afloop zei Leclerc over de demonstratie: "Normaal gesproken sta ik niet graag vroeg op, maar vanmorgen was daar een goede reden voor. Misschien werden er wel een paar mensen wakker van, maar het was geweldig om met de SF1000 door de straten van Maranello te rijden."

"Het was spannend om vandaag weer in de auto te stappen, vooral op zo'n speciale route. Terug in de cockpit voelde als thuiskomen. Het leek een leuke manier om te zeggen dat we klaar zijn om weer te kunnen racen op het circuit. Ik kan niet wachten om de SF1000 in Oostenrijk te besturen."

  Rondetijden zijn nog niet bekend.
  Het team heeft wel laten weten dat leclerc de sessie als snelste afsloot en de meeste kilometers heeft gemaakt van alle deelnemers.

  Heb je toch mis. Hij heeft de langzaamste tijd en de minste kilometers van alle deelnemers genoteerd. Die tijd kon hij overigens niets aan doen, als brave weggebruiker hield hij zich natuurlijk aan de maximum snelheid in de bebouwde kom. En die kilometers kon hij ook niets aan doen, vanwege de budgetlimiet kreeg hij maar een beperkte hoeveelheid brandstof mee.

  Ik zie in je reacties dat je nogal fan bent van het uitroepteken. 1 tip: gebruik het niet te veel, want dan verliest het zijn waarde!!!!!! Zou zonde zijn als dat zou afleiden van het inhoudelijke punt dat je hier probeert te maken.

Prachtig toch, zoiets. Dat je met zo'n ding gewoon de fabriek uitrijdt en de stad doorbanjert naar het circuit. En niemand zegt daar iets van, ze vinden het allemaal schitterend. Passie voor de sport en hun Ferrari.
