Mercedes heeft goed idee hoe ze wagen sneller willen maken

Over twee weken begint het Formule 1-seizoen nu eindelijk echt met de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk. Na bijna vier maanden zonder F1-races zal het uitgestelde seizoen nu echt van start gaan. Doordat de teams te maken hebben gehad met het sluiten van de fabrieken en financiële tegenvallers doordat er niet gereden kon worden missen er inkomsten en is het ook moeilijker om de wagens te ontwikkelen.

Diverse teams hebben al aangegeven weinig of geen ontwikkeling te verrichten aan de wagens dit jaar. Haas zegt helemaal geen ontwikkeling te zullen hebben terwijl Racing Point verwacht dat er minimale updates plaats zullen vinden.

Updates in productie krijgen

Het team van Mercedes is van mening dat het wel zal doorontwikkelen en heeft ook een goed idee op welke manier het team de W11 van Hamilton en Bottas sneller kan krijgen. Technisch directeur van Mercedes, James Allison, zei dat ze hebben gewerkt om de ontwerpen met ideeën in januari, februari en maart op de auto te krijgen.

Allison: "We hebben veel ideeën over hoe we de wagen sneller kunnen maken. We hopen daar een deel van op de auto te hebben voor de eerste race."

Allison zei dat de auto die in februari werd gepresenteerd rond Kerstmis was opgebouwd, waarbij het eerste deel van dit jaar werd besteed aan het ontwerpen van upgrades.

"Veel van die ideeën waren al in uitvoering bij onze ontwerpers voordat we gedwongen werden de fabriek te sluiten. Onze uitdaging is nu om ervoor te zorgen dat een kwart van de ontwikkeling zo snel mogelijk van de tekentafel en op de auto kan komen."

Mercedes testte vorige week op Silverstone met een auto uit 2018 om het team en de coureurs de kans te geven 'de spinnenwebben weg te blazen' en de nieuwe werkwijzen uit te proberen om risico's van het coronavirus te vermijden.

"Waarschijnlijk zal de grootste verandering voor ons allemaal zijn tijdens een raceweekend waar geen fans zijn. Dat wordt een heel vreemde ervaring. Normaal gesproken is het één van de leukste dingen van een circuit. Ik jeuk om te ontdekken of het werk dat we hebben gedaan een auto heeft geproduceerd waar we enthousiast en trots op kunnen zijn."

  Bij Red Bull was de auto niet het probleem, tot voor kort wilde niet iedereen kampioen worden. Max gaf laatst aan dat ze nu eindelijk kampioen willen worden.
