Organisatie GP Rusland: "Portugal wil onze race afpakken"

De Grand Prix van Portugal kan sinds ruim 20 jaar weer voor het eerst terugkeren op de Formule 1-kalender. Door de aangepaste 2020-kalender vanwege het coronavirus kijkt de FOM naar alternatieve locaties en Portimao in Portugal is één van de locaties die serieus overwogen wordt.

De Russische organisator van de Grand Prix in Sotsji heeft aangegeven dat hij het onwaarschijnlijk vindt dat dit zou gebeuren, maar geeft tegelijkertijd aan dat Portugal bezig is om de race van Rusland af te pakken.

Volgens berichtgeving zou het circuit in de Algarve zich klaarmaken om de eerste Grand Prix op het circuit Portimao op 27 september te laten plaatsvinden en een week later de tweede race. De race van 27 september is de originele datum van de Grand Prix in Rusland.

Toeschouwers op tribunes in Rusland

Alexey Titov, de promotor van de race in Sotsji: "We blijven ons voorbereiden op onze race, die nog steeds gepland is voor 27 september, ondanks het feit dat de Portugezen het proberen af te pakken. Maak je geen zorgen, onze voorbereidingen verlopen zonder wijzigingen."

"De situatie met het coronavirus veroorzaakt bepaalde moeilijkheden, maar we proberen ermee om te gaan. Gelukkig hebben we een organisatiecomité dat helpt bij het oplossen van problemen zodat de race op tijd en met alle elementen verloopt, auto's op het circuit en toeschouwers op de tribunes."

"Een van de belangrijkste problemen is teamlogistiek, maar ik weet zeker dat we dit, en elk ander probleem, zullen oplossen."

Geen team wil onder de huidige omstandigheden naar Brazilie, USA en Rusland. Het virus viert daar hoogtijdagen terwijl het door de regeringen wordt gebagatelliseerd. Dan kan je er nooit van uitgaan of je locatie veilig is of niet.

  Het is gewoon weer een politiek iets, racen met publiek is het laatste wat de dictators van het **nieuwe normaal** willen.
  En laat overlord Bill Gates het maar niet horen, die moet ze investering nog terug vangen - vaccineer iedereen anders niet terug naar normaal, dus ook geen publiek met voetbal en F1.

Ik wens Portugal veel succes. Schitterend circuit. In de oorlogen tegen de Fransen onder Napoleon waren Portugese caçadores (oftewel jagers) uitzonderlijk gevaarlijke tegenstanders, dus de Russkis moeten ze ook aankunnen #teamPortimao
