Mark Webber: "Sebastian Vettel maakt comeback in 2022"

Mark Webber denkt dat Ferrari een goede keus heeft gemaakt door Carlos Sainz in te contracteren voor 2021. Het vastleggen van de Spanjaard betekent dat het Italiaanse team Sebastian Vettel verdringt, die het afgelopen decennium alle vier zijn wereldkampioenschappen bij Red Bull Racing won met Mark Webber als teamgenoot.

Er zijn suggesties dat als Vettel niet in staat is om in 2021 bij Mercedes te rijden dat hij dan stopt met Formule 1. Mark Webber zei hierover tegen de krant Salzburger Nachrichten: "Ik ben geen gokker, dus ik zet mijn geld er niet op in. Maar ik kan me voorstellen dat Seb een pauze neemt en terugkomt in 2022."

Niet Ricciardo maar Sainz

Wat de opvolger van Vettel betreft waren velen verrast dat Sainz het voordeel kreeg in plaats van Webber's landgenoot Daniel Ricciardo. Gevraagd of hij verrast was, antwoordde Webber: "Niet bepaald. Carlos past goed bij Ferrari met zijn vriendelijke eigenschappen, en hij past goed bij de Italiaanse cultuur en de taal. Daarnaast is hij ook snel. Hij zal goed zijn voor het merk. Dus waarom niet, vooral omdat hij een seizoen in 2019 had."

Velen hebben echter gewaarschuwd dat de druk op het jongste coureursduo van Ferrari ooit, te groot zal zijn, vooral voor de 22-jarige nummer 1 Charles Leclerc.

Webber zei: "Voor mij ligt de druk niet op Carlos of Charles, maar op het team. Maranello moet de klus klaren en de coureurs de voorwaarden geven die ze nodig hebben."

  Als je alles in je eentje moet doen, wordt de druk groter en kunnen Ninja edits je niet altijd meer redden. Het zou dan slim je tekst nog eens door te lezen voor het posten. Ik vergeet soms wel eens een woord af en omdat ik te snel denk voor het typen

We zullen zien wat Mercedes gaat doen, ik blijf er in ieder geval bij dat Bottas vervangen moet worden door Vettel. Maar ik vraag mij af of Vettel na een jaar pauze wel terug zou willen komen.
Wat betreft Ferrari, ik denk dat ze daar nog wel eens lelijk op de bek gaan. Ik ben van mening dat Leclerc helemaal niet zo goed is en Ferrari zich ook deels door de Media gek hebben laten maken. Want al voor hij nar Ferrari ging overdreef de media wel heel erg over Leclerc. En dan is er ook nog de CEO van Ferrari zich ermee gaan bemoeien en vriendpolitiek mee ging spelen.
Een ding is zeker, Ricciardo heeft de juiste keuze gemaakt en Sainz de verkeerd, zolang McLaren het hoofd boven water weet te houden.

  Ik ben het met je eens. Alleen ik denk dat Bottas in 2021 al vervangen wordt door Vettel.
  De aankondiging door Mercedes laat op zich wachten omdat men daar nog een gemotiveerde Bottas nodig heeft in 2020. Vandaar ook het uitblijven van de aankondiging van Vettels pensioen

  En ik denk dat het nog niet duidelijk is wat Hamilton na 2020 gaat doen. Als hij zou vertrekken, dan wandelt Vettel bij Mercedes met rode loper naar binnen.

  En dan nog mag Bottas zijn plekje vrezen, want Russel heeft ook ambities en ik schat Russel persoonlijk een tikkie sneller in dan Bottas. En wellicht zelfs sneller dan Vettel.

  Het zou natuurlijk een bak zijn als Vettel en Russel de huidige rijders gaat vervangen. Ik denk dat Vettel in de Mercedes wel eens hetzelfde mooie huwelijk kan zijn als met de RBR V8. Van Russel kan ik door de Williams niet echt een beeld vormen, tot nu toe heeft hij geen indruk weten te maken bij mij.
  Maar ik stiekem toch erop dat Hamilton en Vettel samen bij Mercedes rijden, dan heeft Hamilton eindelijk eens een rijder naast zich die het hem moeilijk kan maken. Als Vettel zijn hoofd erbij kan houden, dan zal hij naar mijn idee sneller zijn dan Hamilton.
