F1 wil fans virtueel op Oostenrijkse tribunes tonen

Vanwege het coronavirus zullen de eerste acht races van de Formule 1-kalender van 2020 achter gesloten deuren plaatsvinden, wat betekent dat er geen fans op de tribunes zullen zitten. Vanaf de eerste race van het seizoen in Oostenrijk zal de Formule 1 echter hun bestaande CGI-technologie gebruiken om fans virtueel weer te geven op schermen rond het circuit.

Dezelfde technologie is veel gebruikt bij eerdere races om logo's en berichten over sponsoring vrijwel overal op het circuit te tonen.

De Formule 1 heeft fans gevraagd om hun eigen, korte video's in te dienen om op de schermen te verschijnen. De video's heten 'F1FanCam' en moeten ongeveer vijf seconden lang zijn.

Formule 1 is niet de eerste sport die te maken heeft met het probleem dat er geen fans zijn op het evenement. Ook veel voetbalcompetities zitten met hetzelfde probleem in hun maag. In het geval van de Engelse Premier League zijn zowel kartonnen poppen met fans erop, als virtueel gejuich toegevoegd om de uitzending er iets normaler uit te laten zien en te laten klinken.

De Formule 1 gaf een persbericht uit waarin het uitlegt hoe het precies werkt: "Onze nieuwe F1 FanCam-schermen brengen je naar de baan tijdens de Grand Prix. Toon je steun aan je team of coureur als nooit tevoren. Deel een filmpje van jezelf terwijl je je favoriete coureur of team aanmoedigt en je kunt tijdens de volgende Grand Prix op de virtuele baanapparatuur of op de social media kanalen van F1 verschijnen. Dus lach als Ricciardo, de wereld zal meekijken."

"Het is makkelijk om te doen: Neem een leuk filmpje van 5-8 seconden op, leun achterover en geniet van het racen. Een paar tips. Je moet het uniek maken. We willen vlaggen, teamkleuren, posters en wat voor gezicht / schreeuw / vuist je ook maakt om je favoriete coureur te ondersteunen."

"Maar wees er snel bij. Om kans te maken dat je video wordt gebruikt voor de eerste race in Oostenrijk, heb je maar vier dagen om je inzending te sturen. Daarna selecteren we de beste video's die je het hele seizoen kunt gebruiken."
