Ralf Schumacher: "Zou goed kunnen dat twee fabrikanten F1 gaan verlaten"

Ralf Schumacher maakt zich zorgen over de toekomst van de nationale vertegenwoordiging van Duitsland in de Formule 1. Voormalig F1-supremo Bernie Ecclestone denkt dat de dreigende ondergang van de carrière van Sebastian Vettel verband houdt met het einde van de Formule 1 op het open televisienetwerk in Duitsland na 2020.

Viervoudige wereldkampioen Vettel is de laatste Duitse coureur op de grid en Schumacher denkt niet dat er een toestroom van nieuw talent op komst is. Tegenover DPA vertelde de voormalig F1-coureur: "Wat de ontwikkeling van de jeugd betreft zie ik helemaal geen verbetering. In Duitsland wordt het al geruime tijd verwaarloosd. Ik zie ook het risico dat één of twee fabrikanten afscheid zullen nemen vanwege de tijd waarin we nu leven."

Maar hij zei ook dat de interesse in Formule 1 binnen bepaalde landen de neiging heeft op en neer te gaan. "Het zou niet de eerste sport zijn die een tijdje moeilijk heeft, dat is de tijd waarin we nu leven", aldus de voormalige coureur van Williams en Toyota.

7 Duitse F1-coureurs

In 2010 waren er zeven Duitse coureurs op de grid. Schumacher zei dat dit kwam door de zakelijke steun in het land. Dat is nu niet het geval en dat komt door de zwaardere tijden die de Formule 1 nu moet doorstaan.

"De bedrijven in Duitsland hebben het makkelijk gemaakt. Als een raad van bestuur moet kiezen tussen het ontslaan van mensen of het investeren in een Formule 1-project, is de keus makkelijk gemaakt."

  Nee niet volledig natuurlijk, maar het gaat al lang niet al te best met de F1. Dit zou wederom een klap zijn en op den duur komt de sport echt in de problemen.

  Niet meer op RTL vanaf 2021. Er daar klagen ze nu steen en been over, echter zien we elders in Europa dat het ook prima achter de decoder kan. In Nederland zit het voor circa 50% van de kijkers ook achter de decoder (het Ziggo Sport kanaal is immers open voor alle Ziggo abonnees), en dat gaat prima hier.
  
  Er is haast geen enkele land dat het hele seizoen live op een open kanaal heeft. In Duitsland kon dat lang vanwege de enorme aantal kijkers, sponsors en reclame inkomsten, dat was letterlijk een goudmijn.
  
  Nu loopt het even wat minder en slaat de paniek bij de Duitsers toe. Je moet er niet van staan te kijken als Mick Schumacher in de Alfa Romeo wordt gepropt om de kijkcijfers op te krikken en Sky abotjes te verkopen.

  Als met Mick Schumacher ineens weer vrachten aan sponsors in Duitsland klaarstaan, dan kan dat best interessant zijn.

  Landen hebben inderdaad al rijders de F1 in gebracht. Sterker nog. Er rijdt er 1 nu in de F1, teamgenoot van Verstappen, die is gesponsord door Thailand na zijn moeilijke periode toen hij voor broers en zussen moest zorgen.
  Enige reden waarom hij weer in beeld kon komen van Red Bull vorig jaar... En natuurlijk zijn verdienstelijke rijden.
