FIA houdt optie open om grid procedure volledig te schrappen

Om het risico van verspreiding van het coronavirus tijdens een Grand Prix-weekend te minimaliseren, heeft de FIA ​​een heel boek met maatregelen en beperkingen opgesteld. Dit zal de race zelf zo min mogelijk beïnvloeden, maar één van de momenten waarop dit kan gebeuren is vlak voor de start.

Normaal gesproken is de startgrid voorafgaand aan een Grand Prix een drukte. De teams werken op volle toeren om de wagens in de best mogelijke staat klaar te krijgen en er zitten media en VIP's tussen. Dit is onder de huidige omstandigheden niet mogelijk.

De VIP's zullen in ieder geval niet aanwezig zijn, de pers is sterk verminderd en beperkt in hun bewegingsvrijheid. Maar ook de teams worden in dit geval beperkt. De FIA ​​staat slechts 40 mensen per team toe op de grid. Bovendien moeten ze eerder van de grid af zijn. Dat is nu vijf minuten voor de start, in plaats van drie.

Er bestaat echter nog steeds een kans dat de hele procedure wordt teruggedraaid. Als blijkt dat de aanwezigheid van teamleden op de grid überhaupt te riskant is, zal de FIA ​​overwegen om de startprocedure voortaan vanuit de garageboxen te starten. De coureurs doen dan direct een opwarmronde vanuit de pits en starten dan direct.

    Optie starten vanuit de pits, klinkt heel logish.
    6min voor tijd van de baan af zijn is nirt slim. In 5min lopen de motor temperaturen hoger op dan 3min.
    Om te koelen heb je rijwind nodig.
    Daarom staan er altijd ijs met fans op de auto.

      Maar dan zullen de meeste fans toch wel direct na de start het circuit moeten verlaten.
      En dat zal ook best moeilijk worden voor de auto's die niet vooraan starten. Al die mensen die van de voorste auto's afvallen zien te ontwijken bij de start. Lijkt me geen pretje.

    Helemaal prima, de grid procedure volledig te schrappen. Ik heb het altijd al een rare vertoning gevonden en in Corona tijd lijkt het mij een logische keuze.
    Ik zou het nog mooier vinden dat, als de kwalificatie op zaterdag niet door zou kunnen gaan wegen extreme weersomstandigheden, de kwalificatie op zondag net voor de race is, iedereen maar één getimde ronde, in de uitloop ronde wachten voor de laatste bocht, in de juiste volgorde door rijden naar de grid en binnen een minuut de race starten. Kost veel minder tijd en veel leuker.
