Had jij ooit gehoord van Rich Energy voordat ze op de auto van Haas te zien waren of Mission Winnow op de Ferrari? Waarom zijn de bedrijven die Formule 1-teams sponsoren zo onbekend?

Danka was wel behoorlijk bekend toen het de Formule 1 betrad. En als je er na de overname door Konica Minolta nog steeds niet van gehoord hebt, dan moet je Google maar even gebruiken.

      Toen Red Bull in 1995 begon met het sponsoren van Sauber hadden nog weinig mensen er van gehoord ja.

    er zijn nog al wat vreemde sponsors geweest ja, maar sponsoring is natuurlijk óf om je naamsbekendheid te vergroten, óf omdat je wil dat je merk geassocieerd word met een sport die veel mensen volgen om het imago te bepalen of verbeteren.

      Konica Minolta ken ik wel, Danka wist ik niet wat het was en toen ze F1 sponsorden was internet ook nog niet zo groot(1997)

      En toch stonden er Danka machines in veel kantoren destijds. Als er geen Canon of een Xerox stond, dan stond dan stond er wel een Danka.

    Misschien wel de bekendste in Nederland Spyker. Amper auto's gemaakt, alleen maar schulden en ellende en toch een F1 team. Het klopte van geen kant maar Victor Muller liep over de grid als de grote succesvolle zakenman om nog meer potentiële slachtoffers te imponeren.

    Toch is niet alle sponsoring onbekend of malafide.
    In 1976 werd Surtees gesponsord door Durex. Daar kon je tenminste nog wat van opsteken.

      Voor Durex moest je hem toch echt eerst zelf opsteken.
      Waar ik het meest van opgestoken heb was Camel. Maar de laatste al meer dan twintig jaar geleden.

    Moneytron was ook een leuke. Sponsor van het Onyx team
    Moneytron was een beursbeleggingsbedrijf van Jean-Pierre Van Rossem. Hij zou een stelsel opgesteld hebben van (waarschijnlijk gekoppelde) differentiaalvergelijkingen dat het verloop van de beurs zou kunnen voorspellen. Hierdoor maakte zijn bedrijf naar eigen zeggen eindeloze winsten.
    Hij betaalde zijn eerste klanten uit met de inbreng van nieuwe klanten, een van de oudste financiële zwendeltrucs. Hij gebruikte ook opties om zijn positie in te dekken.
