Netflix filmt McLaren en Red Bull tijdens Grand Prix in Oostenrijk

De filmploegen van Netflix volgend tijdens de Oostenrijkse Grand Prix van dit weekend zowel McLaren als Red Bull Racing. De openingsrace van het F1-seizoen van 2020 gaat door achter gesloten deuren met strikte beperkingen voor het aantal personeelsleden dat mag deelnemen.

Bij twee teams is echter ruimte gevonden voor een kleine filmploegdie de nieuwe derde serie Drive to Survive filmen voor het populaire streamingplatform.

Om het risico op blootstelling aan coronavirus te beperken, zijn de F1-teams beperkt tot maximaal 80 personeelsleden en opereren ze binnen hun eigen 'bubbels', waarbij contact met personeel van rivaliserende teams wordt vermeden. De Netflix-teams die de McLaren en Red Bull volgen, worden geteld als onderdeel van deze 80 man en blijven binnen de omgeving waar teamleden van de betreffende teams ook moeten blijven.

Een team van twee personen filmt McLaren en een derde Netflix-cameraman is ingezet bij Red Bull voor de race op hun thuiscircuit. Onder hun rivaliserende teams nemen sommigen teams de volledige toewijzing van 80 beschikbare personeelsleden mee naar het circuit.

Netflix heeft tijdens de lockdown ook beelden opgenomen voor de aankomende nieuwe serie. Williams-coureur George Russell zei op social media dat hij tijdens de Virtual Grand Prix-serie een camera gebruikte om materiaal te verzamelen.

Een kleiner aantal televisieomroepen woont de openingsronde van het kampioenschap bij, waarbij velen ervoor kiezen niet naar Oostenrijk te reizen en vanuit hun thuisland verslag uit te brengen. Het omroepteam van de Formule 1 zal zoals gewoonlijk live beelden van de baan leveren voor de openingsrace van het seizoen, die door de pandemie meer dan drie maanden is vertraagd.

Heb er gemengde gevoelens bij, tuurlijk is drive to survive een leuke serie, maar het is niet noodzakelijk. Als je ziet hoveel medewerkers/reporters etc thuis moeten blijven , vanuit ander locatie moeten werken ivm veiligheid , waarom mag netflix er dan wel bij zijn?

  Zie Mercedes' feestje in Hockenheim vorig jaar, in dat weekend werden zij ook op de voet gevolgd door Netflix. Hun aanwezigheid lijkt een beetje als een vloek te werken. ;)

  Dus omdat het een keer bij Mercedes mis ging, is de aanwezigheid van 2 of 3 Netflix cameramensen een vloek.....
  Maar hoe zit het dan met al die andere races waar Netflix bij aanwezig was bij verschillende teams?
  
  En nu niet Haas in 2018 gaan gebruiken als voorbeeld, want de aflevering over Haas, waarin Steiner een instant cultheld werd was over meerdere races opgenomen.

  Als ik het zo lees is er ruimte bij redbull en mclaren, doordat zij minder dan 80 man personeel mee nemen.
  
  Dusja, waarom dan niet een camera mannetje stallen? Ik ga er vanuit dat de F1/LM en misschien redbull en mclaren ook wel, een paar centjes opstrijken hiervoor van netflix

  Gewoon zo'n GoPro bodysuit aandoen en daar wat camera's op zetten.
  Een 360 graden camera op zijn hoofd, een op zijn buik, een op zijn rug, op iedere schouder een 180 graden camera die naar de zijkanten kijken, een camera die Jos zelf filmt en dan in iedere hand ook nog een camera.
  Zeker weten dat je dan unieke beelden krijgt.
