Welke bandenkeuzes zijn er beschikbaar?

Normaal gesproken wordt de bandenkeuze in de tweede kwalificatiesessie bepaald, maar omdat er gebruik is gemaakt van regenbanden, kunnen de teams zelf de band kiezen waarmee ze mogen starten. De weersverwachting zegt dat er geen regen komt, dus kunnen de teams kiezen uit de witte, gele of rode band.

Voor de race van vandaag wordt geen regen verspeld. Wel zijn de temperaturen lager dan de Grand Prix van vorige week op de Red Bull Ring. De snelste strategie voor de race van 71 ronden zal naar verwachting nog steeds een één-stopper zijn, maar met een iets andere keuze dan afgelopen zondag. Toen bleek namelijk de rode band zeer goed te werken op het circuit in Oostenrijk waar toen de zon scheen. Dus theoretisch gezien is de snelste manier om morgen 28 tot 33 ronden op de zachte band te beginnen en dan de race op de witte, hardere compound uit te rijden. Ook kan een team kiezen om op de harde band te starten en de race uit te rijden op de zachte band.

Starten op de gele band is optie twee. De coureurs kunnen dan later naar binnen dan de starters op de rode band en kiezen daarna om de race uit te rijden op de rode band. Dit is volgens bandenfabrikant Pirelli de tweede snelste strategie.

Ook is er een mogelijkheid om op de harde witte band te starten en dan op de gele snellere band de race uit te rijden. Deze strategie zou ook kunnen worden omgekeerd, in plaats daarvan startend op het harde en eindigend op het medium voor de laatste stint.

Ten slotte is een twee-stopper absoluut langzamer: twee stints op de zachte band voor elk 24 tot 26 ronden, daarna de gele band tot het einde.

Normaal is Medium-Hard de beste optie. Misschien dat door de lage temperaturen de Soft wat langer mee kan dan normaal, maar echt geen 33 ronden lijkt me. En als een Soft al 33 ronden mee zou kunnen, waarom zou je dan in hemelsnaam naar Hard gaan daarna ipv Medium? Anyway.. Ze zitten sowieso altijd naast.

  Daar zat ik ook al aan te denken.... 33 ronden op soft (rood), dan heb je nog maar 38 ronden nodig op medium (geel)... Moet zat kunnen toch???

  Soft is de c4 compound. Moeilijk voor te stellen dat ze +30 ronden hierop af kunnen leggen.
  C4 is vergelijkbaar met de voormalig ultasoft toch?

  Normaal gesproken zou C4 de ultrasoft zijn, dat klopt.... Maar de compounds zijn ook niet meer dezelfde als een paar jaar geleden..... En volgens het staatje zou het met die rode (C4) dus moeten kunnen, maar we zullen het vanmiddag zien.... Als ze er wel ruim 30 ronden op kunnen tuffen, dan lijkt me dat je daarna niet voor wit moet gaan, maar gewoon lekker doorknallen op geel :)

Als die auto heel blijft gaat Max 'm nailen vanmiddag temperatuur blijft laag dat vinden de taxi's niet zo fijn. Bottas heb ik nog nooit wat spannends zien doen van achteruit. Lewis zal moeten uitkijken na een slechte race vorige week waarna die nu op 7 strafpunten zit.

Met vorige week 9 uitvallers en 3x? een safetycar is een juiste tactiek sowieso lastig te maken.
Je mag er tegenwoordig van uit gaan dat dat zeker 1x per wedstrijd plaats vindt.
Naar mijn mening starten op de rode rakkers. Dan naar geel met de kans nog een keer naar rood te gaan bij SC

Door de enorme hoeveelheid regen die er is gevallen is het circuit weer zo groen als gras, en ben ik vooral benieuwd wie zijn auto het beste heeft afgesteld op een droog weer setting om z'n bandjes het beste te managen tijdens de race.
