Pierre Gasly: "We zijn klaar om te vechten en nog meer punten te pakken"

Pierre Gasly werd vorig seizoen van Red Bull Racing teruggeplaatst naar destijds Toro Rosso, nu AlphaTauri. De Fransman kon onder de druk van Red Bull Racing niet presteren, maar bij AlphaTauri is dat wel anders.

Aan het einde van vorig seizoen liet de Fransman zich al vaak zien, met een podium op Interlagos in Brazilië. Tijdens de eerste race van dit seizoen reed de AlphaTauri-coureur in de middenmoot en gisteren wist hij zelfs Q3 te halen. Daar is de jonge coureur erg blij mee. "Ik ben super blij met vandaag (zaterdag red.), het is de eerste Q3 van het jaar en het is pas de tweede race van het seizoen! Ik heb met veel plezier onder deze omstandigheden gereden. Het was zwaar maar ook erg leuk en ik denk dat we onze kansen echt hebben gemaximaliseerd."

Pierre Gasly kon sneller

Pierre Gasly reed in zijn laatste ronde nog snellere tijden, maar door een gele vlag-situatie kon hij niet hoger dan P8 kwalificeren. "Het is alleen jammer van de gele vlag in de laatste ronde, omdat ik denk dat ik twee of drie tienden sneller ging, dus er had waarschijnlijk een P5 kunnen staan achter mijn naam."

Door een gridstraf van Norris schuift de coureur uit Rouen een plekje op. "We kunnen echter erg blij zijn met ons resultaat van vandaag en we zullen een positie hoger op de grid starten, P7, vanwege de penalty van Norris. We hebben morgen (zondag red.) compleet andere omstandigheden, maar we zijn klaar om te vechten en nog wat punten te pakken."
