Amerikaanse Grand Prix zal dit jaar niet doorgaan

Er zijn begin dit jaar al veel Grands Prix niet doorgegaan vanwege het coronavirus. Ook de rest van de kalender is nog niet zeker, vooral in de tweede helft van het jaar. Het lijkt er echter op dat er geen enkele race gereden zal worden in Zuid, Midden en Noord-Amerika.

Een official van de Amerikaanse Grand Prix zegt nu ook dat de race van 2020 'ernstig in gevaar is'. De Amerikaanse official Bobby Epstein heeft toegegeven dat de race in Austin waarschijnlijk wordt afgelast voor 2020.

Terwijl Rusland en Mugello zijn toegevoegd aan zijn nu 'corona-kalender' met 10 races, zullen andere races in Hockenheim, Imola, Portimao, Vietnam, Bahrein en Abu Dhabi binnenkort volgen.

Austin's Circuit of the Americas tweette deze week, en verwijderde vervolgens, dat de MotoGP-race voor 2020 definitief niet door zal gaan.

Circuitvoorzitter Epstein vertelde: "De Formule 1 race voor de Amerikaanse Grand Prix staat voor een vergelijkbare situatie, hoewel ze ook zouden racen in Brazilië en Mexico. Die locaties maken een race in Noord-Amerika haalbaarder, maar het evenement loopt ook ernstig gevaar. Het ziet ernaar uit dat daar niet geracet zal worden, dus er is een grote kans dat ook de Amerikaanse Grand Prix dit jaar niet door zal gaan.

Personeel ontslagen op circuit Austin

Andere circuitfunctionarissen zeiden dat de locatie in Austin, waar de helft van het personeel is ontslagen, niet verzekerd is voor een annulering in het geval van een pandemie. Een woordvoerder zei dat 2020 vanuit financieel oogpunt 'een volledig verloren jaar is geweest'.

  verder zijn er in Wisconsin 36.000 besmettingen en in Texas 265.000

  @Masf1: Daar zat ik ook meteen aan te denken.... Wel IndyCar, maar geen F1.... Wat is nou het wezenlijke verschil tussen die twee???? OK, de F1 is was internationaler dan de IncyCar, maar als je de juiste maatregelen treft moet dat niets uitmaken.....

  De seizoensopener was in Texas.
  
  Dat was weliswaar op 6 juni. Inmiddels is het aantal dagelijkse doden met bijna 400% gestegen in Texas. En dat komt dus onder andere doordat vanaf 3 juni de lockdown grotendeels opgeheven werd in Texas. Nu moeten ze dus weer terug naar een lockdown. Dat krijg je er nou van als een lockdown wordt opgeheven terwijl het aantal besmettingen toeneemt.

Voor de F1 komen ze allemaal uit de EU, dit jaar was het toch al verboden om nog naar de VS te komen, ik had deze GP allang gecanceld in mijn hoofd.
