Kimi Raikkonen: "Ferrari laat Sebastian Vettel niet vallen"

Kimi Raikkonen zegt dat hij betwijfelt of de relatie van zijn vriend Sebastian Vettel met Ferrari zo verbroken is dat de Duitser het seizoen bij Maranello niet kan afmaken. Voormalig Ferrari-coureur Eddie Irvine zei deze week dat het team Vettel netjes had moeten betalen om per direct te vertrekken, aangezien de team dynamiek verpest is.

Voormalige Ferrari-coureur Kimi Raikkonen is het daar niet mee eens. Hij kent de viervoudig wereldkampioen bovendien erg goed en heeft doordat ze jarenlang teamgenoot waren een vriendschap met de Duitser: "Ik weet niet veel en wat er gebeurt, baart me niet zoveel zorgen. Ik betwijfel of de relatie tussen Ferrari en Vettel zo slecht is zoals veel mensen beweren."

Ferrari en Vettel hebben echter al twee zeer slechte raceweekends gehad in 2020, maar Raikkonen benadrukt: "Ik wil niet overschatten hoe moeilijk het nu voor hem is. Het was voor ons ook niet de gemakkelijkste start. Ik weet zeker dat er meer van Ferrari gaat komen dit jaar dan we nu hebben gezien."

Raikkonen gelooft daarom niet dat Ferrari dit seizoen het leven van Vettel opzettelijk moeilijk zal maken. De Fin: "Het is in hun belang om met beide auto's het best mogelijke resultaat te behalen. Dus ik zie geen reden waarom ze dat zouden doen."
