Michael Masi begonnen aan inspectie van circuit Imola

De F1-kalender van 2020 is nog steeds niet volledig en daarom is de FOM nog altijd op zoek naar locaties waar er gereden kan worden. Door nieuwe uitbraken van het coronavirus zowel binnen als buiten Europa wordt de zoektocht bemoeilijkt en lijkt het er niet op dat er veel opties zijn om buiten de Europese grenzen te racen.

De F1 heeft wel een akkoord met Bahrein om twee races te rijden en met Abu Dhabi om de laatste race van het seizoen te houden. Wat er tussen de Grand Prix op Mugello en tussen Bahrein gebeurt is nog een groot vraagteken.

Suggesties zijn er wel, zoals races in Duitsland op Hockenheim, in Portugal op Portimao en een race in San Marino op het beroemde circuit van Imola lijkt ook steeds serieuzere vormen aan te nemen. De kansen van Imola lijken te stijgen aangezien Michael Masi op dit moment (woensdag) bezig is met de inspectie van het circuit.

Onlangs heeft het circuit in San Marino de FIA-homologatiestatus geüpgraded naar Grade 1, de benodigde status om een F1-race te mogen organiseren.

Imola-baas Uberto Selvatico Estense zei eerder in juli: "We zijn verheugd dat het nieuws over Mugello nu officieel is. Ik zie het als een verdere vergroting van de kansen van Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari om aan het einde van het seizoen een Grand Prix te organiseren."

Leuk circuit, hoop historie. Veel kansen op inhalen? Totaal niet, afgezien van wellicht het verlengde rechte stuk..

  Inhalen is lastig, maar ik heb er wel een "saaie" race voor over om de moderne F1-auto's op dit circuit te zien racen. De kwalificatie lijkt me al waanzinnig en om de 20 huidige F1-auto's op de eerste bochten zien af te stevenen maakt het helemaal af.

Gasly en Kvyat hebben daar laatst gereden, testdag en filmdag, en zeiden dat er heel erg moeilijk in te halen is met de huidige wagens.
Het weer is er doorgaans in november ook niet erg gunstig.

  Dat was in de vroege jaren 2000 ook gewoon al zo. Die baan is niet geschikt voor met huidige F1-wagens op te rijden, behalve voor een optocht. Dat was in de laatste edities al zo. De 2005 en 2006-race waren enkel en alleen leuk omdat Alonso en Schumacher tot twee keer toe op elkaars huid zaten, maar eigenlijk wist je al dat inhalen er onmogelijk was.

  Idd. sinds de tamburello is vervangen door een dubbele chicane is eigenlijk de mogelijkheid tot inhalen teniet gedaan.
  Zonde,maar ze konden blijkbaar niks anders doen na de dood van Ratzenberger en Senna.

  Klopt. Hoe vet ik deze baan ook vind: de laatste races waren niet om aan te gluren. Moet er wel bij gezegd: toen was er nog een chicane voor start en finish. Die is er nu niet meer. Met drs moet je vanaf Rivazza dus prima kunnen inhalen. Recht stuk is echt lang genoeg.

Naast dat Sochi compleet door onze Rob word genegeerd, een race in San Marino? Gaan ze Imola verplaatsen? Imola ligt toch echt gewoon in Italië. Ik blijf me iedere keer verbazen om de stukken die hier worden neergeplempt, leest dan helemaal niemand de stukken na voordat ze online worden gezet?

  Imola ligt op 100 km van San Marino inderdaad. Echter is het wel altijd de GP van San Marino geweest, omdat je geen twee keer de GP van Italië mag hebben. Vandaar de vergissing in het stukje.
