Maleisië en Turkije vechten voor plek op F1-kalender

De Turkse regering heeft toegegeven dat Istanbul weer een nieuwe locatie kan zijn om toe te voegen aan de aangepaste F1-kalender voor 2020. De laatste bevestigde races aan de kalender zijn de Nurburgring, Portimao en Imola, waardoor er nu 13 races op de kalender staan.

F1 CEO Chase Carey zegt dat de FOM sterke vooruitgang blijft boeken om de plannen voor 2020 helemaal rond te maken en een complete kalender te hebben tot ergens in december van dit jaar. Hoewel de Formule 1 in 2020 niet naar de Amerikaanse continenten zal reizen, wordt verwacht dat de locaties in het Midden-Oosten aan het einde van de huidige F1-kalender worden toegevoegd.

Turkije organiseerde voor het laatst een race in 2011 op de populaire locatie in Istanbul Park. Het circuit is nu in de race om weer gastheer te worden om vanuit het niets toch op de kalender van 2020 komen te staan. De regering van het land heeft aangekondigd dat het 'Istanbul Park racecircuit onder de presidentiële auspiciën van de Republiek Turkije blijft werken aan opname in de Formule 1-racekalender voor 2020'.

Ook Maleisië wil een kans

Naast Turkije hoopt ook de Maleisische regering op een nieuwe kans met het prachtige circuit Sepang. Een paar maanden geleden sprak de directie al uit open te staan voor voorstellen vanuit de FOM en graag mee te willen denken om een race te organiseren.

De Formule 1 was actief op het circuit van 1999 tot en met 2017. De laatste Grand Prix van Maleisië werd gewonnen door Max Verstappen.

Beide mooie circuits in ieder geval, maar veel is natuurlijk ook afhankelijk van de lokale covid sitiuatie

  Lezen @dutchiceman...Sepang zou geweldig zijn, mooi circuit. Afgaande op alle berichten aan we toch wel een volwaardige kalender krijgen.

Maleisië goede keuze laat ze daar maar weer gaan racen. Maleisië zijn 124 mensen overleden aan Corona , er wonen er 31,53 miljoen (2018) dus.

Zandvoort blijft met lege handen zitten door hun starheid.
Daardoor zal volgend jaar ook lastig worden dan wel een verloop naar de jaren na het contract.

  Die starheid heeft te maken met het feit dat Zandvoor geen overheidssteun krijgt en alles zelf moet financieren. Zandvoort is een bedrijfje, en zonder publiek draait dat bedrijf verlies. En dat kunnen ze zich simpelweg niet veroorloven.

  En een ander aspect wat speelt is dat Zandvoort 3x een GP mag organiseren. Los van de centen willen ze niet één van de drie GP’s “opofferen” aan een race zonder publiek.

Na het eerste woord van de titel al gekozen: MALEISIË! Wat een topbaan :) Jammer dat ze daar weg gegaan zijn vanuit race-oogpunt. Vooral ook vanwege het onvoorspelbare karakter van het weer en de vele lijnen die je op Sepang kunt rijden.

  Ga ik voor Turkije, van Maleisië verwacht ik dat ze in de toekomst weer een contract aangaan omdat dit circuit vaak gebruikt wordt voor andere klasses.
  Turkije is een echt gaaf circuit wat er nu vervallen bijligt, ook leeft autosport totaal niet in Turkije, dus de kans dat hier ooit weer gereden gaat worden is veel kleiner.
  Beide zijn het prachtige circuits.

Ik zeg beide, want dit zijn hele mooie circuits.
Turkije heeft mooie en moderne bochten.
En Sepang blijft een gemis op het kalender, dat is één van mijn favoriete circuits in F1 op de PS4.
