Grand Prix van Italië bevestigt race zonder toeschouwers

Monza heeft bevestigd dat de Italiaanse Grand Prix van dit jaar geen fans zal hebben vanwege het aanhoudende coronavirus. Tot dusver zijn er in 2020 nog geen races geweest waarbij er fans op de tribunes zaten, aangezien de F1 in een bubbel blijft opereren, met slechts twee bevestigde coronabesmettingen na meer dan 15.000 tests sinds de sport eerder deze maand van start ging.

Monza, dat dit jaar van 4 september tot 6 september de Italiaanse Grand Prix organiseert, is de eerste van drie races in Italië, met Mugello en Imola op het programma in de komende weken. De F1 hoopt dat fans tegen het einde van het seizoen races kunnen bijwonen, met kaartverkoop voor de Grands Prix in Rusland en Portugal.

Monza staat bekend om zijn verzameling van fans na de race op het rechte stuk van de start-finish, maar zal dit jaar zijn F1-race achter gesloten deuren organiseren. In een korte verklaring die woensdag werd vrijgegeven, zei het circuit: "De Italiaanse F1 Grand Prix van 2020 op het Autodromo Nazionale di Monza van 4 tot 6 september vindt plaats achter gesloten deuren, dus zonder toeschouwers."

"Reeds gekochte tickets worden terugbetaald voor de volledige waarde van de prijs die erop staat. De komende uren zullen kopers per e-mail een mededeling ontvangen met de verschillende terugbetalingsmethoden, gebaseerd op het kanaal waarmee de tickets zijn gekocht."

Tijdens de vroege stadia van de aankomst van het coronavirus in Europa was Italië het zwaarst getroffen land en heeft het meer dan 246.000 gevallen van COVID-19 gemeld. Behalve in de editie van 1980 is Monza sinds de start van het WK in 1950 de thuisbasis van de Italiaanse Grand Prix.

In de Verenigde Staten zijn NASCAR en IndyCar begonnen fans toe te staan races in beperkte aantallen bij te wonen en met strikte gezondheids- en hygiënecontroles.

  Voor de aandacht die de NOS aan F1 geeft, zou ik sowieso nooit iemand van de NOS daar naar toe sturen. Vergeefs moeite en zonde van het geld. Iemand die geintresseerd is in F1 komt toch nooit bij de NOS uit.
