Jerez de la Frontera krijgt mogelijk tweede Spaanse GP

De aangepaste Formule 1-kalender voor 2020 lijkt bijna zo goed als rond. Er staan nu 13 races op de F1-kalender en daar komen er zo goed als zeker nog minimaal 3 bij; 2 races in Bahrein en 1 race in Abu Dhabi waar de seizoensafsluiter gereden zal worden.

De laatste Grand Prix die bekend is gemaakt is de race op Imola, maar waar de Formule 1 daarna naartoe reist is nog niet duidelijk. Er waren plannen om naar Azië te reizen om Vietnam en Maleisië aan te doen. Beide landen kunnen op het stratencircuit in Hanoi en het glooiende Sepang niet voldoen aan de eisen en daardoor lijken deze races nu af te vallen.

Onzekerheden Sepang

De organisatie van het circuit van Sepang kan niet in korte tijd het circuit klaar krijgen voor de Formule 1. Voor de F1 er kan racen zouden er werkzaamheden aan het circuit verricht moeten worden. Daarbij is de onzekerheid van een race zonder toeschouwers niet aantrekkelijk voor het land dat grotendeels leeft op toerisme. Hiervoor is ook de Grand Prix in Vietnam onzeker geworden, doordat de F1 niet voor één race naar Azië wil reizen.

Daardoor blijft de Formule 1 waarschijnlijk toch langer actief in Europa. De naam van Jerez de la Frontera wordt genoemd in wandelgangen. In de paddock van Silverstone komt het circuit in Jerez naar boven omdat er vroeger geracet is, en de teams er vroeger ook vaak getest hebben. Daarbij is het vaak in Zuid-Spanje ook in oktober nog goed weer.

Chase Carey werkt aan 2021

Als de laatste hobbels voor de kalender van 2020 klaar zijn zal Chase Carey direct beginnen aan de kalender voor 2021. De Amerikaanse baas van de Formule 1 heeft dit jaar veel werk verricht om alsnog een waardevol kampioenschap in elkaar te draaien, met alle onzekerheden die het coronavirus met zich mee bracht.

Hij zal zich ook volgend jaar flexibel op moeten stellen omdat het nog lang niet zeker is in welke situatie de wereld zich de komende winter begeeft. Wel is het zeker dat de Nederlandse Grand Prix op Zandvoort volgend jaar zal plaatsvinden.

Ik denk dat ze de werkzaamheden zelf moeten betalen maar dat ze die nooit meer terug kunnen verdienen. De komende paar jaar zal het toerisme lager zijn en daarmee de inkomsten en bezoekers van het circuit.

Ik dacht begrepen te hebben dat Liberty Media de kosten zouden ophoesten voor een race en dat de organisatie geen fee hoefde te betalen. dan maakt het toch ook niet uit als je als land voornamelijk van toerisme leeft? Je stelt alleen een circuit beschikbaar en Liberty Media draagt de kosten?

De werkzaamheden (en de kosten ervan) zouden wellicht de hobbel kunnen zijn voor Sepang.

Er zal in 2020 nooit een race in Azië komen als ze er geen Aziatische back to back van kunnen maken.
Hanoi is altijd een luchtkasteel gebleken, immers kost het je maanden aan voorbereiding om een stratencircuit in orde te maken, waardoor Sepang (helaas) dus niet zal gebeuren.

“Wel is zeker dat de Nederlandse Grand Prix Volgend jaar zal plaatsvinden”

Hij zal wel op de agenda staan, maar dat ie door kan gaan is nog niet zo zeker als wordt beweert. Veel zal afhangen van de perikelen met Covid-19, en het aantal besmettingen loopt weer op. Ook is nog niet bekend wanneer er een vaccin beschikbaar zal zijn en voor wie.

Een race zonder publiek is een mogelijkheid maar daar is dit jaar juist vanaf gezien.
