McLaren, Williams en Ferrari tekenen vijf jaar bij

De F1-teams van McLaren, Williams en Ferrari hebben voor de komende vijf jaar getekend in de F1. Dat maakten die teams vanavond bekend.  Daarmee blijven drie van de oudste teams tot 2026 actief in de koningsklasse.

Ferrari

Ferrari maakt al vanaf het begin van het WK in 1950 deel uit van de Formule 1. Het team wist 238 grandprixoverwinningen te boeken en veroverde 15 wereldtitels. "Racen zit in ons DNA", zei manager Louis Camilleri. 

McLaren

McLaren doet sinds 1966 mee in de Formule 1. Oprichter Bruce McLaren was de eerste coureur. Het raceteam heeft 182 races gewonnen en veroverde 12 keer de wereldtitel met een van zijn coureurs. "De Formule 1 heeft met deze nieuwe overeenkomst weer een belangrijke stap gezet op weg naar een duurzame, sterke toekomst", zei McLaren-baas Zak Brown. "Dit is de juiste deal op het juiste moment voor de sport."

Bonus

Vandaag was de eerste dag dat er kon worden getekend.  Vroege beslissers krijgen ook een bonus. Dat kunnen deze teams goed gebruiken, nadat COVID 19 vooral bij McLaren en Ferrari hard toe wist te slaan. 

Williams is vanaf 1977 in de Formule 1 en tekende dinsdag ook tot en met 2025 bij in het nieuwe akkoord. Naar verwachting tekenen alle tien huidige teams de nieuwe afspraken, daarvoor hebben zij tot eind van deze maand de tijd. 

Concorde-verdrag

Het Concorde-verdrag is een strikt geheime langetermijn-overeenkomst waarbij de teams en het management van de F1 het eens worden over de toekomst van de sport en de verdeling van gelden. Ook staan er de rechten en plichten van alle partijen in vermeld. De teams sluiten sinds 1981 deze overeenkomsten elke vijf jaar.

De vorige Concorde-verdragen zorgden ervoor dat de professionaliteit van de sport werd gegarandeerd en dat de Formule 1 commercieel succesvol zou zijn. Belangrijk is dat het verdrag ook afspreekt dat de teams aan alle races zullen deelnemen. Op die manier weten bijvoorbeeld TV-stations zeker dat alle teams te bij elke race aanwezig zijn. Dat is ook belangrijk voor de verdeling van de uitzendrechten.

      Ik verdenk Arjan ervan dat hij een tijdmachine heeft. Hij kijkt een dag voorruit komt dan terug maar dan 1 dag teveel. Kan best verwarrend zijn hoor zo'n tijdmachine.
