Pirelli kan zich niet vinden in kritiek van Lewis Hamilton

Mario Isola zegt dat hij altijd luistert naar de klachten van F1-coureurs over de banden. Zesvoudig wereldkampioen Lewis Hamilton zei afgelopen weekend in Spa dat, omdat er geen bandenoorlog meer is, de 'druk' voor betere banden nu van de coureurs moet komen.

FIA en Pirelli luisteren

Mario Isola is het echter niet eens met de kritiek van Hamilton. Volgens de Mercedes-coureur luistert Pirelli niet naar de coureurs, die al tijden roepen dat er betere banden moeten komen. Isola: "We luisteren naar de coureurs. Ik wil niet de verkeerde indruk wekken, want elke keer dat de coureurs beschikbaar zijn om te communiceren, luisteren we naar hun mening. En ik spreek niet alleen namens Pirelli, maar ook namens de FIA."

Op zoek naar grip

Isola zei echter dat Pirelli zich in een moeilijke situatie bevindt, omdat de wensen van de coureurs en de realiteit van de situatie tijdens de coronacrisis ervoor zorgen dat zijn handen enigszins gebonden zijn.

"We luisteren graag naar de wensen van Lewis, maar theoretische wensen zijn één ding, en ze in werkelijkheid realiseren is iets heel anders. Soms moet je compromissen sluiten. Het is fysiek niet mogelijk om banden te maken die 100 procent grip en 100 procent stabiliteit bieden zonder onderhevig te zijn aan degradatie of oververhitting. Zo werkt het niet", aldus de Italiaan.

"Ik weet dat coureurs van grip houden en ik weet dat ze om de perfecte band vragen. Dat is waar we naar streven in 2022," voegde Isola eraan toe, verwijzend naar de dreigende omschakeling naar 18-inch rubber.

Focus op 2022

"Wat de banden voor 2021 betreft, we hebben niet de mogelijkheid om ze opnieuw te bewerken. We zullen ons concentreren op het maken van de banden voor 2022."

Hamilton zijn kritiek is terecht, ook Verstappen denkt er zo over trouwens.

Het grootste probleem, is dat de coureurs niet onbeperkt aan kunnen vallen en dat is zeer jammer.

    Als de banden de snel grip verliezen en het kost je teveel tijd stel ik voor dat je een extra pitstop maakt.

    Dat moet anders kunnen. Daarbij zouden ze imo de telemetrie van de banden moeten halen, communicatie vanaf de pitmuur over de banden verbieden en het aan de coureur laten of én wanneer hij nieuwe banden wil.

    Dan denk ik dat we veel attractievere races gaan krijgen.

      Pirelli moet gewoon een andere samenstelling produceren. Het is toch te zot voor woorden dat men 36! ronden banden aan het sparen is.
      Er worden honderden miljoenen uitgegeven om de bolides sneller te maken, maar door de banden kun je de potentie totaal niet benutten.
      Moet niet gekker worden.
      Ik zou dat als Pirelli ook niet accepteren dat ik in opdracht van de FIA deze rotzooi als bandenleverancier moet produceren.
      Elke race klagen de beste en bekendste rijders over hoe slecht de banden zijn. Is marketingtechnisch toch niet echt goede reclame lijkt me zo. En juist daarom zit een Pirelli in de F1.

      Helemaal met je eens. Ook Helmut heeft iets in deze strekking gezegd afgelopen week.

      Banden sparen is van alle tijden maar wat we de afgelopen twee races gezien hebben sloeg nergens op.

      Ik denk dat ik komende zondag voor het eerst sinds hele lange tijd een race niet live ga kijken maar gewoon ‘s avonds terug kijk. Al die triple headers zijn al lastig uit te leggen aan mijn gezin maar als we dan ook nog eens dit soort “races” te zien krijgen....

      Inderdaad. Je moet de keuze hebben dat je altijd kan pushen wanneer je wilt. Bandensparen is van alle tijden, maar dat je na 8 ronden al niet meer kan aanvallen is triest.

      @pallmall Ik doe dit al een tijdje zo.
      Echte hoogvliegers zitten er niet bij dit seizoen, dus hou ik de zondag lekker aan mezelf met vrouw en kids.

      Hoewel er vorig jaar toch wel een paar pareltjes waren. Dus ik hou hoop.

      Precies, die telemetrie zooi er zo snel mogelijk af, de races worden bepaald door computer nerds, alles wordt doorberekend in diverse situaties, gaat nergens meer over.
      Vooruitgang in technologische hoogstandjes.......heel leuk, maar het verpest het pure racen.

      Volgens mij is dit snel geregeld als de FIA een verplicht minimum aantal pitstops afkondigt. In Spa bijvoorbeeld minimaal 2 stops.
      Dan hadden we een situatie gezien waarbij alle teams nog een keer naar binnen moeten en dus een strategie kiezen waarbij veel meer gevraagd kan worden van de banden, in plaats van te sparen, niet aan te kunnen vallen, etc.

      eerlijk gezegd begrijp ik dit niet de FIA heeft de eisen aan de banden bepaalt daar voldoet de leverancier aan en nu krijgt de leverancier de schuld terwijl de teams ook nog eens hebben besloten de eigenlijk voor dit jaar ontwikkelde banden niet te gaan gebruiken. oplossing is simpel telemetrie voor de banden verwijderen en oordeel en beslissingen weer bij coureur neerleggen. in plaats van bij de computer.

      Pirelli heeft ergens wel gelijk. Zij maken de banden waar de FIA om gevraagd heeft. De FIA heeft juist aan Pirelli de opdracht gegeven om banden te maken die ervoor zorgen dat ze nu alleen bezig zijn met bandenmanagen. Weer zo'n typisch voorbeeld van regeltjes die ze verzinnen om het allemaal wat spannender te maken en die juist een averechts effect hebben.

    Gewoon een twee stopper verplicht maken, dan kunnen ze meer rondes pushen in plaats van dat bandensparen.

      Probleem met een verplichte twee stopper is dat dat ook weer een beetje spanning en strategie verminderd.

      Geen verplichting graag. Ook geen verplichte bandenwissel. Iedereen moet de snelste strategie kunnen kiezen. Beter kun je tanken weer toestaan om meer pitstops te forceren.

    Lewis moet niet zeuren. Het ligt aan de Mercedes-auto dat die banden zo hard slijten. Andere teams hebben daar veel minder last van.

    Misschien een idee. Geen idee hoe makkelijk is te realiseren. Maar zorg er voor dat verschil tussen de compound (bijv. C2 en C3) ipv. 0.9 sec, 1,5 a 1,6 seconden is. Dan is het iig strategisch interessanter en met grotere verschillen zul je automatisch meer inhaalacties gaan zien. En zal je ook niet meer zo makkelijk op een medium compound kunnen kwalificeren.

    Als ik de interviews bekijk van uber-banden-specialist Kees van der Grint, is het toch allemaal zo gemakkelijk niet om de beste band te ontwikkelen..
    Ik zou eerlijk gezegd de banden nog sneller willen zien degraderen, zodat er 'verplicht' meer pitstops nodig zijn in een race. Maar dan gaan ze nog meer managen natuurlijk.. 't Is zo simpel niet...
