Slechts 3 testdagen ter voorbereiding op F1-seizoen 2021

Volgens het Duitse Auto Motor und Sport zullen er slechts drie testdagen in de winter zijn voordat het seizoen 2021 van start gaat. Het aantal wintertests is de afgelopen seizoenen gestaag afgenomen, met twee 3-daagse testsessies die eind februari van dit jaar in Barcelona plaatsvonden.

Dat aantal daalt naar verluidt tot slechts 3 dagen in 2021, waarbij de locatie nog niet bekend is. Correspondent Tobias Gruner zei dat er zelfs discussies plaatsvonden over het volledig annuleren van wintertesten voor 2021, om kosten te besparen te midden van de coronacrisis.

Terwijl McLaren in 2021 overschakelt van Renault naar Mercedes-motoren, wordt aangenomen dat met name het Britse team het meest heeft gepleit voor ten minste één driedaagse test. Volgens Auto Motor und Sport zijn Barcelona, Jerez en Bahrein allemaal besproken als de mogelijke locatie waar de 3-daagse test gehouden wordt.

Gruner beweert ook dat Bahrein kandidaat is om de eerste race van 2021 te organiseren, aangezien Melbourne momenteel volledig is afgesloten door de coronacrisis met een verlengde noodtoestand die zojuist voor nog eens 6 maanden is afgekondigd.
