Kimi Raikkonen wil niet met pensioen: "Nog te leuk in F1"

Geef Kimi Raikkonen iets waar liefst vier wielen onder zitten en hij is blij. De snelle Fin is nog niet van plan de hoogste klasse van de autosport de rut toe te keren, ook niet nu hij 40 jaar is.

Reden? Kimi heeft het nog altijd reuze naar zijn zin in de Formule en beleeft onverminderd plezier aan de sport.

Experts dachten daar van de zijlijn anders over. Zelfs vrienden van Raikkonen dachten te menen dat Alfa Romeo in 2020 de druppel zou worden, door te weinig uitdaging zou Kimi moeite hebben zich nog te motiveren, dit seizoen.

Allemaal onzin, zegt Kimi:

"Natuurlijk zouden we allemaal gelukkiger zijn als de resultaten iets beter waren", zei de wereldkampioen van 2007 tegen La Gazzetta dello Sport. "

Goede tijden, slechte tijden

"Soms is het moeilijker, soms minder, maar zo is racen en moet je het accepteren. Je kunt niet denken dat er alleen goede tijden zijn."

Hij vervolgt: "Ik houd van racen en het plezier heeft nu de overhand. We zouden natuurlijk graag beter willen presteren, maar we geven niet op. We wel wat verbeterd in de laatste twee races, dus we gaan in ieder geval in de goede richting", zo voegde de Fin eraan toe.

Rubens Barrichello's records

Raikkonen zal Rubens Barrichello's record voor racestarts bereiken - 322 - tijdens de komende GP van Rusland. "Ik weet niet eens of het in Sochi of de Nürburgring zal zijn", antwoordde Raikkonen desgevraagd.

Kimi kijkt nooit naar cijfers

"Als niemand iets had gezegd, had ik er geen flauw idee van. Ik kijk nooit naar cijfers en eerlijk gezegd betekent het op dit moment niets voor me. "Ik ben gewoon gefocust op verbetering. Maar het is waar dat ik op een dag, als ik oud ben en terugkijk, misschien anders denk. Maar het zal lang duren", glimlachte hij.

En dus zouden de geruchten over pensionering voorlopig weer wat afsterven. Zijn teambaas Frederic Vasseur zei op Monza dat Raikkonen "een referentie" is voor Alfa Romeo. 'Ik heb er niet over nagedacht', zei Raikkonen.

Gaat Kimi stoppen?

"Ik weet niet wanneer ik zal stoppen. "Als ik dat doe, zal ik bij mijn familie blijven. Ik weet niet of ik nog een keer zal racen, maar ik zal zeker gaan karten met mijn zoon. En ik zal mijn vrouw meenemen op haar huwelijksreis - ik heb haar altijd gezegd dat we dat samen gaan doen als ik een stop met F1, dus daar wacht ze nog altijd op."

  Zal NIETS met geld te maken hebben! Hij wil dat veel te graag en bij AR of HAAS zal er plaats zijn.....zelfs RBR heeft een klein kansje. Moet eerst iemand Marko bellen. Ik heb zijn nummer niet...geld....pffffff. :-)

  Kimi heeft in tegenstelling tot sommige coureurs een redelijk eenvoudig leven. Huisje in zwitserland en in finland waar die vooral opzichzelf leeft dan te laten zien hoeveel en hoe duur zijn spullen zijn. Runt wel een MXGP team, maar veel van dat budget komt van KTM/Husqvarna en Rockstar Energy. Zelf zie ik hem liever naar WRX gaan. Ik denk ook wel dat WRX hem meer past dan WRC in het verleden.

Dat is hetzelfde als Barrichello , een eeuwigheid in de formule 1 , van een topteam naar de achterhoede en op een gegeven moment weet je als kijker niet eens meer dat hij meedoet
