Franz Tost: "Overwinning vieren we niet, we moeten door"

Ook voor teambaas Franz Tost van AlphaTauri kwam de overwinning op Monza als een echte verrassing. De teambaas was supertrots op zijn team en coureur Pierre Gasly, die een jaar geleden werd gedegradeerd van Red Bull Racing naar destijds nog Scuderia Toro Rosso.

Na de rode vlag-situatie had Gasly de raceoverwinning in eigen hand, vooral nadat hij wegreed van de nummer twee Carlos Sainz. Die kroop terug in de slotfase van de race, maar Pierre Gasly verdedigde goed. De Fransman wist zo gemakkelijk de overwinning binnen te slepen.

Het is natuurlijk een speciaal moment voor het team van AlphaTauri, het wint een race en dat ook nog eens op Monza. Het is extra speciaal, omdat het team haar thuisbasis heeft in Italië. We racen volgende week weer in Italië, maar dan op het circuit van Mugello, waarvan Ferrari eigenaar is. Hierdoor is er geen tijd voor een feestje, want de monteurs moeten alles in gaan pakken voor die race, zo vertelde Franz Tost.
