'Slimme keus van Sebastian Vettel om bij Aston Martin te tekenen'

Nadat bekend werd dat Sebastian Vettel eind 2020 Ferrari moet verlaten kwamen er geruchten op gang over zijn toekomst. Racing Point / Aston Martin leek daarin de enige serieuze optie, en dat is het ook uiteindelijk geworden. Volgens voormalig Mercedes-baas Norbert Haug en ex F1-coureur Hans-Joachim Stuck is het een slimme zet van de Duitser.

Terwijl de schijnwerpers op Ferrari moesten staan tijdens de 1000e Grand Prix van het team in Mugello, lag de focus voorafgaand aan de race op Sebastian Vettel. De Ferrari-coureur zal volgend jaar racen voor Racing Point, dat vanaf 2021 Aston Martin zal heten. Norbert Haug, voormalig hoofd autosport bij Mercedes, ziet veel potentie in de transfer. De Duitser zegt hierover bij Sport1: "Geen enkele dominantie zal eeuwig duren. Dat zagen we bij Red Bull Racing. Dus als ze goed werk leveren, kan Aston Martin heel succesvol zijn. Ze hebben tenminste een goede basis."

"Vettel zei dat hij de beste omgeving krijgt bij Aston Martin. Ik kan niet zeggen of het genoeg is om het kampioenschap te winnen, maar ze hebben daar een plan. Dat was toen bij ons destijds ook het geval."

Bovendien is Haug niet de enige die het een positieve stap vindt voor Vettel. Voormalig F1-coureur Hans-Joachim Stuck: "Bij Racing Point zijn ze op de goede weg met de Mercedes-motor, de beste motor van dit moment."

Wolff stapt over naar Aston Martin

Stuck denkt dat er zeker een kans is dat Toto Wolff ook de overstap naar Aston Martin maakt. "Hij lijkt erg onbeslist, dus wie weet wat er in de toekomst zal gebeuren. Alles is daar mogelijk, dus misschien was het een verdomd slimme zet van Vettel."

Ik ben er niet van overtuigd, Seb heeft best wel veel fouten gemaakt de laatste jaren.
Ik hoop dat het beter zal gaan, maar ik heb er 'n hard hoofd in.

  De vraag is waarom Vettel de foute maakte. Ik denk uit frustratie en dan komt de vraag waarom. Dat zoek ik dan weer bij Ferrari, want hij bleef vragen voor een auto met stabiele achterkant, maar dat lukte of wilde Ferrari niet. Hij wilde heel graag kampioen worden met Ferrari en misschien iets te graag.

Een heel mooi doordacht gekozen moment om officieel wereldkundig te maken dat Vettel voor Racing Point / Aston Martin getekend heeft. Wat het feestje van Ferrari had moeten zijn werd zo min of meer het feestje van Vettel / Racing Point / Aston Martin. Ach bij Ferrari hadden ze toch al niet zoveel te vieren

  Was Vettel echt goed/beter “vroeger”? De RB was destijds zo goed! Toch was Alonso bijna kampioen met Ferarri. Terwijl de Ferarri een stuk minder goed was als de RB van die tijd. Vettel is een goede coureur... maar niet uitzonderlijk goed.
