'Raikkonen wil nieuw contract en in F1 blijven racen'

Kimi Raikkonen rijdt sinds 2001 in de Formule 1. De Fin begon bij Sauber waarna hij werd weggekocht door McLaren en in zijn tweede jaar naast David Coulthard kwam te rijden voor het Britse team. Vervolgens reed hij voor Ferrari, Lotus, Ferrari en nu voor Alfa Romeo.

Veel kenners in de paddock denken dat dit jaar het achttiende en laatste seizoen van de 40-jarige coureur op de grid zal zijn, aangezien de Alfa Romeo niet competitief is, de motivatie van Raikkonen hierdoor afneemt en junioren zoals Mick Schumacher in de coulissen wachten om zijn plekje over te nemen.

Volgens C More-commentator Niki Juusela is de wereldkampioen van 2007 echter misschien te ervaren en competitief voor Alfa Romeo om hem te laten gaan. Juusela zegt: "De waarheid is dat als je naar de teams met Ferrari-motoren kijkt, Charles Leclerc de duidelijke leider is. Maar na hem is het Raikkonen."

"Als we het hebben over zijn contract, dan is het duidelijk dat beide Haas-coureurs duidelijk zwakker zijn. Antonio Giovinazzi loopt ook achter in de races terwijl het voor Sebastian Vettel een heel ander verhaal is. Van de coureurs die Ferrari-motoren gebruiken, komt Raikkonen duidelijk op de tweede plaats. Het laat zien hoeveel vraag er nog is naar Kimi's rijvaardigheid, hij is de op één na beste Ferrari-coureur. Punt uit."

Maar als je het artikel goed leest, lees je dus dat Raikkonen op dit moment na Leclerc de meest competitieve coureur is met een Ferrari motor.
Ik zou dus eerder Grosjean, Magnussen en Giovinazzi afschrijven dan Kimi. Hij rijdt misschien voor de fun, maar hij rijdt verdomt goed voor de fun.

Het zou beter zijn dat er meer competitieve F1 coureurs in het veld rijden dan de "ouderen" die meer voor de fun rijden en geen afscheid kunen nemen van het leuke F1.
Voorbeeld zou zijn dat Perez ipv Raikkonen zou kunnen rijden.

Kimi heeft nog altijd de kwaliteiten om op het hoogste niveau mee te komen en rijdt met zichtbaar plezier rond. Mijn strenge dieet staat geen ijsjes toe, maar anders zou ik een eventuele contractverlenging van de Iceman vieren met een Magnum oid :P
