Mercedes en McLaren houden F1 plannen voor reverse grid tegen

Liberty Media wordt geconfronteerd met ernstige tegenstand tegen haar plannen om een voorstel voor reverse grid sprintraces voor het seizoen 2021 nieuw leven in te blazen. Mercedes sprak zijn veto uit over het idee voor 2020 en hield het daarmee tegen, maar voor 2021 zou een zogenaamde 'super-meerderheid' van 28 van de 30 stembelangen de maatregel door kunnen drukken.

Tot dusver zijn Mercedes en ook McLaren fel tegen. Andreas Seidl van McLaren: "Als McLaren zijn we altijd van mening geweest dat aan het einde van de kwalificatie de beste coureurs en de beste auto's vooraan moeten staan."

Hij is niet overtuigd door het argument dat de Formule 1 wat kunstmatige opwinding moet introduceren om de totale dominantie van Mercedes door elkaar te schudden. Seidl: "Mercedes verdient zijn successen omdat ze het beter deden dan wij allemaal bij elkaar."

De meeste coureurs hebben dit weekend in Sochi ook hun felle tegenstand tot nu toe uitgesproken, waarbij Max Verstappen zei: "Formule 1 gaat niet over een kunstmatig gecreëerde show. De kwalificatie is goed zoals het is."

Daniil Kvyat denkt niet eens dat het idee van een reverse grid zou werken. Het voorstel is dat de sprintrace op zaterdag in omgekeerde kampioenschapsvolgorde zou starten, met als resultaat dat vervolgens de startgrid voor de Grand Prix op zondag zou bepalen.

Kvyat: "Nadat ze als tiende of twaalfde waren gestart, zouden de twee Mercedes na tien ronden eerste en tweede rijden. Het zou alleen maar meer verwarrend zijn."

Lando Norris voegde toe: "Een omgekeerde grid is niet de sleutel tot betere races. Ik vertrouw meer op de regelwijziging die in 2022 komt. Het is verkeerd om de besten te straffen."

Daniel Ricciardo vindt dat de waarde van een overwinning onderuit wordt gehaald: "Wat is een overwinning in de Grand Prix waard als iemand alleen op die manier kan winnen?"

  Idd. Hoe zeer ik het ook haat Bottas en Hamilton steeds op de eerste startrij te zien: Reversed startgrid hoort niet bij F1. Het is een zwaktebod. F1 moet ook sport blijven en niet alleen maar show.

Jammer dat het kleine beetje echte zuivere sportieve in de F1 steeds verder moet wijken voor de show en voor de commercie. Gelukkig zijn er nog teams die er anders over denken, maar hoelang kunnen zij nog stand houden?

  zolang de meeste fans er tegen zijn. en als ik de reacties bekijk op fora´s dan stemt me dat wel tevreden. Dus die ongein gaat voorlopig niet door.

  Ik snap de Fia wel , het begint allemaal veel te voorspelbaar te worden en probeert men iedere gelegenheid aan te grijpen om Mercedes zijn dominantie af te pakken en het spektakelnivo omhoog te brengen op een kunstmatige manier , alleen denk ik idd dat dit niet de juiste weg is

Geeft denk ik alleen maar aan hoe wanhopig men op zoek is naar mogelijkheden om deze tegenwoordig kapot saaie evenementen nieuw leven in te blazen. Zolang de krachtverhoudingen zijn zoals ze nu zijn, zullen steeds meer mensen zich afwenden van de F1.

Als de fans echt zitten te wachten op dingen als reverse grids en gelijkwaardige(re) wagens zouden sommige anders raceklassen een stuk populairder zijn, zou je denken...
