Sochi wil toekomst Grand Prix veilig stellen met nieuw contract

Sochi wil zijn contract verlengen om de Grand Prix van Rusland in 2021 en daarna te blijven houden. Al langere tijd is Sint-Petersburg in de race om de Russische Grand Prix over te nemen. De stad klopt nadrukkelijk op de deur van de FOM dat het graag een race wil organiseren in de toekomst.

Er gaan ook geruchten dat de locatie in Sochi, gelegen op de plaats van de Olympische Winterspelen van 2014, opnieuw zal worden ontwikkeld en dat het circuit plaats moet maken voor andere activiteiten of herbouwd zal worden in een nieuw ontwerp.

Andrey Kostin - de president van titelsponsor VTB Bank - meldt nu dat de kwestie van het verlengen van het contract van Sochi zal worden besproken. Hij vertelde aan persbureau Tass: "Het is heel belangrijk dat we erin geslaagd zijn om dit evenement met publiek te houden. Er werden in totaal 30.000 mensen verwacht, die tegelijkertijd volledig voldeden aan de eisen van de autoriteiten."

"Wij geloven dat dit een belangrijke internationale wedstrijd is, die belangrijk is om in Rusland te worden gehouden en die ook de interesse in de Russische motorsport aanzienlijk vergroot. De kwestie van contractverlenging zal worden besproken, maar op dit moment is het nog wat vroeg om erover te praten", zei Kostin.

    Jullie geloven dat dit een internationaal belangrijke wedstrijd is zodat je ook nog een keer positief in beeld bent. Maar dat terzijde.
    Ik dacht dat de baan een stuk hobbeliger dan vorige jaren, eerst maar eens nieuw asfalt neerleggen.

      De race was overigens redelijk dit jaar, omdat er in het middenveld genoeg te beleven was, maar heel die locatie (ondanks de omgeving) mist gewoon ambiance en sfeer.

      De inhaalrace van Max vorig jaar was het enige leuke aan Sochi. Ik vind het niet zo'n boeiend circuit. Zelfde geldt voor Baku. Dat gerace tussen hekken, ik hou van old school circuits. En gelukkig komen die er weer aan.

    Die locatie is totaal sfeerloos en er is nog nooit een echt goede race geweest: tenzij ze de baan willen aanpassen om een wat beter circuit te krijgen gewoon niet doen.

    Dat deze race op de kalender staat en Maleisië niet klopt gewoon van geen kant.
