Overheid legt verbod op toeschouwers bij Turkse Grand Prix

Eerder dit jaar werd bekend dat de Turkse Grand Prix terugkeert op de F1-kalender van 2020. Door het bijzondere jaar en F1-seizoen vanwege corona hebben diverse landen en circuits hun kans schoon gezien, waaronder Turkije met het circuit Istanboel Park.

Over enkele weken keert de F1 terug naar het circuit en aanvankelijk wilde men 100.000 toeschouwers op de tribunes krijgen. De kaartverkoop liep ook storm; de eerste 40.000 tickets voor 10 euro per stuk waren in no-time uitverkocht.

Niets van dat alles zal echter te zien zijn op de televisie als de Grand Prix wordt verreden want de overheid in Turkije heeft verboden dat er toeschouwers mogen zitten op de tribunes tijdens de F1-race. Het coronavirus en vooral de besmettingen stijgen ook weer in Turkije, net als in Europa, waardoor de regering geen toeschouwers wil toelaten. De organisatie heeft dus moeten besluiten om de race van 13 t/m 15 november te laten verrijden voor lege tribunes.
