Pirelli over bandenkeuze Nürburgring: "Het weer heeft hier grote invloed"

Bandenfirma Pirelli zal tijdens de Grand Prix van de Eifel het F1-weekend benaderen als een totaal nieuwe ervaring ondanks recente ervaring in andere klasses. Het Italiaanse merk was hier met de koningsklasse voor het laatst in 2013. Sebastian Vettel won toen met Red Bull-Renault.

Pirelli-chef Mario Isola maakt zich geen zorgen na een lange afwezigheid. "We zijn goed voorbereid en brengen drie bandenversies mee die passen bij de eigenschappen van de baan." Dit betekent dat de fabrikant de zachtste (C1) en hardste band in Italië laat. (C5). De middelste drie soorten zullen dan fungeren als soft, medium en hard.

Isola verwacht dat het weer in Duitsland de grootste invloed zal hebben op het verloop van de race. "In deze tijd van het jaar komen vaker lage temperaturen en regen voor. Teams zullen moeten omgaan met deze ongewone omstandigheden, op een baan waar ze niet gewend zijn om op te rijden."

Teams die snel kunnen anticiperen op verschillende situaties, zullen hier een voordeel hebben. "Het wordt een race met verschillende strategische keuzes. Er is een kans dat we alle type banden gaan zien."

Voor elke Grand Prix zijn er vijf soorten banden beschikbaar: drie voor droge omstandigheden en twee voor natte weer condities.
