Valtteri Bottas vol vertrouwen: "Ik weet wat mij te doen staat"

Mercedes-coureur Valtteri Bottas won twee weken terug de Russische Grand Prix. De Fin wil in de Eifel verder borduren op het positieve resultaat in Sotsji. Voor hem en de andere rijders staat een flinke uitdaging te wachten door de koude en mogelijke natte omstandigheden.

In Rusland behaalde Bottas zijn tweede overwinning van het seizoen. Daarvoor stond de vice-kampioen acht wedstrijden droog. Zijn andere zege was namelijk in de eerste race van het seizoen op de Red Bull Ring in Oostenrijk.

Het gat tussen leider en teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton is 44 punten. Bottas hoopt dat te kunnen dichten in de komende Grands Prix. Op de Nurburgring zei de Fin: "Ik ga met een goed gevoel dit weekend in na een goed resultaat. Ik ben vaak erg dichtbij geweest in andere races. Dat het dan eindelijk weer lukt, zorgt ervoor dat ik weer weet waar ik toe in staat ben. Dat is een positief iets."

Door de koude temperaturen en de kans op regen, staat er een uitdaging te wachten. "Het wordt een lastig en erg speciaal weekend met deze weercondities. Ik ga er het beste van maken en ik hoop het momentum vast houden."

Volgens de Mercedes-coureur is de sleutel tot succes om goed te anticiperen op onvoorspelbare gebeurtenissen. Dit op een baan waar de Formule 1 sinds 2013 niet op gereden heeft. "De laatste keer hier was in 2008 toen ik in de Formule Renault een test deed. Het sneeuwde. Het circuit is dus niet nieuw voor me."

Bottas verwacht aankomende dagen dezelfde omstandigheden als tijdens de pre-season tests in Barcelona. "Het zal niet zo erg verschillen met de voorbereidingen in de winter. We moeten snel kunnen handelen met het vinden van de juiste setup en de manier van rijden."

Bottas had het geluk met de straf van Lewis, anders had hij niet gewonnen..... Ik zie Lewis op de Ring ook gewoon weer voor de overwinning gaan..... Hopelijk kunnen de natte en koude omstandigheden nog voor een verassing zorgen....

Het gaat regenen dus dan wordt het sowieso niks bij Bottas. Dan mag hij al blij zijn met een top 5 finish. En ook in de gevechten heeft hij het gewoon niet. En als hij hem een keer laat staan krijg je een crash.

Zonder het theater van ham en mercedes was hij gewoon tweede in sotchi ,mercedes heeft gewoon een show opgevoerd ,maar waren verrast dat het ook licentiepunten meebracht voor Hamilton .
