Kimi Raikkonen ontkent verlengen contract Alfa Romeo

Kimi Raikkonen heeft gereageerd op berichten dat hij zijn contract bij Alfa Romeo heeft verlengd voor 2021. Diverse bronnen beweren dat de nieuwe deal van de Fin, en die van zijn verwachte teamgenoot in 2021 Mick Schumacher, vrijdag door het in Zwitserland gevestigde team zou worden aangekondigd.

Op de Nurburgring vertelde Raikkonen dat het nog niet zover is: "Er is nog niets besloten. Er zijn gesprekken met het team, maar uiteindelijk zal het mijn beslissing zijn. Er zit geen optie in mijn contract. Ik kan je verzekeren dat dit valse informatie is. Ik heb gisteren, vandaag, vorige week of vorige maand niets ondertekend."

Räikkönen zei dat hij de berichten over zijn volgende contract niet eens heeft gelezen en onthulde: "In de loop van de jaren ben ik gestopt met lezen over mezelf omdat 90 procent van wat er is geschreven niet waar is. Maar als ik was gestopt met racen, zou ik hier niet zijn."

Raikkonen zei dat de Formule 1 veel is veranderd sinds hij debuteerde als controversieel jonge en onervaren coureur in 2001. In vergelijking met toen zei hij: "De F1 heeft tegenwoordig meer mensen, meer technologie, meer geld, meer politiek in de paddock. In het begin was het meer ouderwets."

Mick lijkt op Michael Schumacher

Wat betreft het verwachte nieuws dat Mick Schumacher volgend jaar zijn teamgenoot wordt, antwoordde Raikkonen: "Ik ken hem niet zo goed, maar zijn resultaten zijn veelbelovend. In veel opzichten is hij als een kopie van zijn vader. Ik ben blij dat hij dit weekend met ons samenwerkt."

Ik dacht hij ook aandelen in het team had.. Zie hem dan ook wel een functie opnemen daar richting management of zo. Net zoals ik dat ook voor Vettel zie in zijn toekomstige team .
