Spa-Francorchamps gaat verbouwen: 80 miljoen en vooral grindbakken!

Het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps wordt de komende jaren flink onder handen genomen. De verbouwing zal rond de 80 miljoen euro gaan kosten en zorgt er onder meer voor dat vooral uitloopstroken van asfalt vervangen worden door grindbakken!

Dat is te zien in een filmpje dat het circuit naar buiten heeft gebracht, dat hieronder is te zien. En zoals het de Belgische inwoners van Wallonië goed betaamt, de regio waarin Spa valt - is het uiteraard alleen ondertiteld in het Frans.

Volgens berichten zijn de veranderingen vereist door FIM, de internationale organisatie van motoren, voorafgaand aan de race in Spa in 2022 van een Endurance race voor het kampioenschap. Formule 1-fans mogen ook blij zijn dat de circuitwijzigingen een gedeeltelijke verwijdering van de asfaltzones bij La Source, Raidillon, Blanchimont, Les Combes en Stavelot omvatten en worden vervangen door grind.

Een van de belangrijkste verbeteringen op het gebied van veiligheid is de toevoeging van een nieuwe tribune op de top van Raidillon, die zorgt voor meer uitloop op de plaats van de fatale crash van Anthoine Hubert in 2019.

      Keien dus. Leuk dat men de grindbakken weer terug laat komen. maakt het toch wel weer een stuk spectaculairder.

    Best wel een positief signaal voor de autosport, niet alleen in deze tijden van Corona, maar ook dat veel circuits over de wereld moeite hebben om het hoofd boven water te houden, dat ze nu in Spa 80 miljoen gaan investeren.

      Misschien wordt een deel van de tribune als ware over de uitloopstrook gebouwd zoals in Assen? Daardoor kan je wel ruimte creëren zonder dat het ten koste gaat van de plaatsen?

      @Stingray: Ligt eraan waar de tribune komt te staan (of verplaatst wordt).... Verder naar achteren en je hebt weer een paar meter uitloop....

    Dus eerst moesten alle grindbakken weg en enorm brede uitloopstroken om een paar jaar later weer voor een paar miljoen een verbouwing te doen om grindbakken terug te krijgen. Op die manier maak je nooit winst. Misschien belanden we bijna in een tijd dat een circuit bepaald wat ze doen en de F1 mag daar gebruik van maken ipv andersom.

    Ik ben een groot voorstander van bacs a graviers, dus imo gaat Spa nog een stuk spannender en veiliger (zeker nu we de halo hebben) worden dan het al was. De nieuwe tribunes zien er ook geweldig uit, goed bezig daaro!
